    Well, here's a story:

Two days ago, I was using Skype and everything was fine. I didn't touch anything on the laptop related to sound at all.

Today, I use Skype and the quality is screwed up. It occurs with both the internal and external microphone, but moreso with the internal (thankfully, I don't use the internal one). The start of the call will be very nice quality, but a few seconds in, it'll change to crap.

Is this Skype's fault? Or is this my microphone?

Don't think its a hardware problem - except maybe if the soundcard were faulty.

I'd think something just got messed up.

Check Windos Update for any audio related updates.
Check if Skype updated itsef (may be difficult)

Test microphone with audactiy (example) - if its "clean" then its Skype.

=> repair Skype or check the Microphone settings if you have any boost or what have not activated.

Could be Skype. Call quality is determined by a lot of things.

I'd test your hardware by using something like Audacity and recording a long ramble. If that works for extended periods of time, it's not your Mic.
