What is the best way or if there are any decent products available to clean laptop monitors without leaving streaks or haze? There are a couple of dots on the monitor that needs to be cleaned off. Does it matter if the monitor is off or on when it's cleaned? Thanks for all your advice

You'll need a lint free cloth and you're not supposed to use alcohol, so you're best off using a cleaning solution designed for LCDs. You may as well just run to your local computer store and buy one of the little kits that comes with both. It doesn't really matter if it's on when you clean it. I've definitely cleaned lots of laptops while on, but on some screens it's easier to see dirt with it off so I just hit the little button thingie.

Be careful, I've seen two terrible things happen to people who managed to screw up cleaning. One guy used Windex and somehow the Windex actually got behind his LCD. Another guy actually cracked his LCD while cleaning it, imagine that.

I recommend buying either a cleaning cloth for screens or doing what I do:
    1. Turn off you laptop and push the screen as far back as possible, so that it is parallel to the table, i.e. totally flat.
    2. Use some tissue paper and just a little bit of water and clean the monitor. Just soak a little patch on the tissue. The reason you should turn it off is because you use water (not plenty though ok?) as well as you can see the dirt easier when everything is black and especially if your screen is shiny. Go over with dry tissue just in case the screen is wet

It's fine if you decide it works for you, but I recommend against tissue paper. Most tissue paper will leave tiny little white specks, in my experience.

On my 5790, I just get a damp sponge or something and wipe and then wipe it with something dry.
