I found this company while searching for a cover to protect my keyboard from spills and dust while still being able to use it. They claim that they can make a sleeve to fit any notebook that you may have. The website is www.protectcovers.com and I was just wondering if any of you out there own one of these and if so how well does it work/fit ? Below is a picture of what it would look like.

I would be VERY cautious of using a product like this unless you check out some details of your laptop first. A major issue for fast-running laptops is heat dissipation, and a number of computers draw cool air in through gaps around the underside of the keyboard, circulate it around the motherboard and hard drive, then out side vents. It seems this product might block cool air, leading to overheating, a slowdown in performance, and at worst frying your board or drive. Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware!!!) Doug

I don't think heat would be an issue since it should be just over the keyboard/touchpad part. I think it would be pretty secure and protect any laptop.

I ran across that site before too and been really wondering about it. I know it reduces the ability to use the touchpad but I have mine disabled. You can even find similar keyboard covers on ebay. I just like the idea of extra spill protection and damping the keyboard noise when I'm typing. Some professors at my school hate laptops in the classroom because the typing noise distracts them. I can imagin it would take getting used to, but is it really that bad drumfu?

i would say yes, it's pretty bad... we used to use them at a job i had on our desktop keyboards. the one my friend has for his pbook is the same (don't know if it's the same brand as the original poster posted). i actually stopped using it on the workplace computer because it was so intrusive.

i guess your mileage may vary, but i could never get used to it... made typing way too difficult... like i would regularly have to press a key repeatedly and/or just generally type way harder (to the point of being uncomfortable) to get it to register.

again, your mileage may vary... i'm sure somebody somewhere swears by 'em
