My $150 setup died today :( it lasted about 5 years so I am not really too mad lol.

What is something for like 25-50 I could replace it with?

The reason I am being so cheap is because I have a pair of real nice head phones I use when I game so this is mainly for just youtube video and music.

    >Cheap

It's one or the other. :p

That said, I've heard the Z523 is decent for its price, but don't expect much out of it.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but what would be recommended for quality 2.1 system if budget is not an issue as long as it's not overpriced.
I was looking for 5.1 but it got too complicated for me with "true" and "virtual" 5.1 and all those cables.

I actually fixed my old system, the 3.5 cable was just ripped a little bit and I was able to get a friend to rewire, and now I have my great kilpsch setup back wohoo!

Nice. Take care of it eh! Even to this day, good sound systems are one of the few electronic products that can last decades and still be as good as products from today.

I picked up an Insignia 2.1 system from Best Buy on the cheap when I needed some speakers for my computer. They work pretty well, decent sound. It's not audiophile quality, but pretty much any inexpensive system will do a good enough job unless you're really picky, and then you need to start worrying about the sound staging of the room you're in more than the speakers, at least at first.

what was your original system that blew? =\

    just curious :)

Having heard only a couple because I mainly use my headphones as well for pretty much everything on my laptop. However I do have a logitech z2300. Basshead ;) Can't skimp out on the bass. If you're looking for clarity these aren't it. Definitely for music/gaming only. The speakers are essentially two mid's. No tweeters, but for mid's they definitely can get their high's in there. But not an audiophile type of high quality frequency one would like. A little bit out of your price range; but just lending a helping hand with another idea :D

I would have to go with sgogeta4 on the klipsch's if your want clairty. Probably the only comparable one to the z's I have that can get clear highs from what I heard. The z2300... man.. some awesome bass. Definitely house, dorm, apartment rumbling, 15 doors down... and 3 floors down rattling bass of goodness ;)

    thank you thank you :D

hmm... I guess you can go the logitech route, I stand by logitech's products and reliability. Haven't had any experience with their smaller speakers though. From the looks and reviews of those z523, they seem pretty nice :)

If I had $50 for a smaller set of speakers.. hmm... I think I would highly consider it. Probably go to the store like best buy or somewhere to see if there's a display model to play around with.

Just FYI: I use Logitech's Z-Cinema system, and have been for the last 2 years. It's a great system and fulfilled all the requirements I had for a speaker system (Huge sub, decent sound, and a good remote), for a good price.

It works well, funnily enough, without the included software.
