    Hi...

I am looking for some advice on a 2nd monitor. I will not be playing games on it. Basically, I will be using it as a reference. I use a lot of pdf and word docs and do a lot of research on the net. Thus, while I would be working on my laptop's screen (R400; 1280x800 res), the reference materials would/ should be optimally on the second monitor. Splitting the screen on the second monitor into 3 sections (to handle 3 different documents) would also be helpful.

I should be able to move effortlessly between the 2 monitors for highlighting, copy/pasting etc.

Got to be cheap, easy to handle (I'll probably buy the Thinkpad base station applicable for the R400) and be low maintenance.

    What would your recommendations be?

    Thanks

Dell makes some good affordable widescreen monitors. Consider the Dell ST2310 (23 inch) or 2410 (24 inch) models. Either of these can be purchase for under $200 with Dell coupons.

Thanks. The problem is that I am in India and looking through the Dell site, they have neither of the models you mentioned listed. Instead they have the following, which are all 22" but not 23"

Dell P2210 (22 inch Flat Panel Monitor)

    Dell G Series G2210 (22"W Monitor)

Dell UltraSharp 2208WFP (22" Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor)

    Dell ST Series ST2410 (24"W Full-HD Monitor)

And, some others like that. Also, is there any need to go over the 20" size? I'll bet the under 20" size would be a little cheaper.

    Thanks

    Edit:

Some of the prices I found in India are as follows:

    Dell SE178WFP 17″ LCD Monitor – 8400/- (US$ 182)
    Dell SE198WFP 19″ LCD Monitor – 9700/- (US$ 210)
    Dell SE2008WFP 20″ LCD Monitor – 14650/- (US$ 318)
    Dell SP2208WFP 22″ LCD Monitor – 16800/- (US$ 365)

From the Lenovo website (India), I found the following:

    Lenovo Thinkvision L1711p (17in) LCD Monitor - Rs.9,676/- (US$ 210)
    Lenovo D186 Wide Monitor (18.5in) - Rs.8,531/- (US$ 185)
    Lenovo L197 Wide Monitor (19in) - Rs.9,468/- (US$ 205)

Would appear that the Lenovo monitors are cheaper. Any idea as to how good (or otherwise) they are?

    Thanks
