Well i have alot of music on my itunes and i am waiting for my m11x to arrive. I went out and bought a 250gb portable drive(seagate freeagent for $50) today. I already have all of my pics on it. But i have looked and looked and cant figure out how to get my music on my itunes onto it and then later put the music on my itunes on my m11x. Any suggestions? Or does itunes not allow that?

I believe all the iTunes music is saved in a folder named iTunes in the My Music folder?

At least thats where mine are..I just copy the entire folder and everything shows up.

the default iTunes music folder is in your [User > Music] Folder.

Copy the entire iTunes music folder you your external harddrive.

    In your new computer

Copy the iTunes music folder from the external drive to the [User > Music] folder in your new computer.

if you have opened itunes in you new computer before, there should be a pre-existing itunes music folder, overwrite it. if you haven't opened itunes before then just placed it in there, when you open itunes, all your music with all the rating and settings will be preserved.

or you could create itunes library backup directly from itunes.

If you don't do this then you will have to re-buy the songs cause Itunes won't let you Download them all again.

It's also possible to Manually Manage your ipod, and use it as an external hard drive itself. Then you can just copy/paste the encrypted files/folders that are in ipod-format into your other computer. You'll have to rename them, since they use a strange naming system 'KD3E' or such. You could also use an intelligent name-fixing software like "Tune-Up media companion". It's a last-resort method, but saved my 30gig music collection once, when my HD crapped the bed. ;).

In the preferences>advanced tab you can set the media folder location if you want it to be in say the external drive.

Then file>library you an export your library to that folder or back up your library.
