    Hi...

I have an ancient Advent Laser Mouse. It's one of those small laptop things. I have been using it now for over a year and a half and have been OK with it. I don't really game so it served my needs. However, recently I found that when I am...say in a Word document and am typing, suddenly the page jumps - not much but maybe around 3-4 lines or so. The same happens when I am say surfing. I removed the mouse and just used the touch pad and this does not happen. The batteries are fully charged etc.

Any idea why this is happening? Anyways I am in the market for a more recent laptop mouse - maybe the logitech nano...if I get it where I live that is!

    Thanks

try not to use it on reflective/white surfaces..it uses light reflection to navigate...i would suggest using a black mouse pad

Oh...well I use the mouse on my table without a mouse pad..so..going by what you are saying maybe that is the reason?

Can you explain - or maybe point me to a link/ source - how the mouse operates?

Edit: One more question: Is a Bluetooth mouse better than a laser mouse?

Bluetooth and laser are not mutually exclusive. Bluetooth is the wireless technology used to transmit the signal from mouse to computer, while laser is the technology used to track along the surface under the mouse. You could have a Bluetooth laser mouse.

Is your table reflective? If it has a shiny surface, it could cause problems. However, page jumps don't see right to me. Sounds like an errant scroll wheel signal. Do you live in an apartment? An outside chance is that you are experiencing some sort of interferance. Another thing is to make sure you have the latest drivers for the mouse.

Isn't interference something that comes with all wireless mice? The only way I know that that won't happen is to use a mouse with a cord.

As for your problem kristalsoldier: I does sound like your scroll wheel is acting up. Have you tried to cleaning it?

Yeah interference comes with any wireless device, but depending upon the device/driver, the interference could manifest differently.

Still, the problem he is having doesn't sound like wireless interference. And why would he just start having interference now? It sounds like his scroll wheel is dirty or lose to me.

Sound like good possibilities too. I was just throwing it out there. I did say it was a wide shot.

This is very interesting! Becoz, though I had not mentioned it in the first post, I use the Acer 5920, which has that oddly placed USB port by the DVD drive bay - so, I use the USB stick on the other side - the left side - and I am right-handed. Could this be a possible reason?

The surface of the desk that I use is not particularly reflective. It is made of wood. I live in an independent house. About intereference - well...my connection to the internet is via a wireless modem...could that be the problem too because the source of the wireless signals is less than 6 inches away from the mouse?

As I said, this is an el cheapo mouse and it came with no drivers that I know of and no installation CD. It was purely plug and play - in the best of sense!

    Thanks for your insight.

Now this is a real possibility! I have not maintained the mouse in any manner worthy of speaking...and I am sure it is very cruddy...maybe I'll give it a good clean and see if there is any improvement.

    Thanks
