There's no problem with doing that at all, but you really don't need the Dock, unless you just want to buy one for later use or need the extra ports, as a USB hub is a lot cheaper. Also, don't freak if you buy one and it comes without an AC adapter - it's powered by the HDX's Expansion Port.

If you've got a BD-ROM and plan to use an external HDTV for movie presentation, remember that you have to set your external monitor up as your PRIMARY notebook monitor - if you try to use Clone or Multiple monitor setups, the BD Content Protection on the disk will automatically give you a Content Protection Error message and shut down the movie after it starts. Remember also to update your QuickPlay software (start it up, click on the Gear icon in the upper right corner, then click on Update). Don't try to use something else either - you'll wind up with headaches and never get it to work.

Remember also that you'll need to manually redirect your audio to your HDMI cable:

    1. Open your Control Panel, click on Sound, highlight "Digital Output Device" (HDMI or SPDIF, depending on your driver, makes no difference which one).
    2. Click on the Default button to set your DOD to the default output, which will switch sound output from your internal speakers to the HDMI cable.

Remember to reset it back to your PC speakers when you're finished or you'll be scratching your head and posting a new problem here wondering why your sound is gone.

As pointed out by CyberVisions, you don’t need a docking station to connect an external monitor. There is a built in HDMI port in your notebook. That monitor supports HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs
