I was wondering how long do the batteries on the Nano last? Say, if never shut it off?

Edit: Also, there is no reason why re-chargeable batteries should not work, right?

I don't know for how long, but in a mouse they will last a long time.

It's counter productive to use rechargeable batteries in something that drains the battery as little as a mouse (well, unless you happen to already have them). There are several reasons for this:

A rechargeable battery doesn't hold as much amperage as a non-rechargeable (I guess one could find a non-rechargeable that has less juice than a given rechargeable in theory, though).

A rechargeable battery used in something that doesn't use much power will pollute much more than a non-rechargeable because the manufacture of NiMH (rechargeables) is much more polluting than the usual non-rechargeable. It only "pays" for itself in the pollution-department because you can recharge hundreds of times over. And this is something you won't do if you're using it in a mouse.

Also, a NIMH battery will self-discharge pretty fast. Non-rechargeables doesn't do that to the extent of rechargeables. Thus the power is basically evaporating.

Mine runs well almost 8 months now, with no battery change. But then I shut my comp down when not using it for over an hour.

    cheers ...

I think the specs say it will last 6 months w/o changing the batteries, I have not read anyhting bad about battery life so I would trust that stat. I will be getting one soon as well and when I do I will keep a 4pack of backups just incase.

Well...I asked the question because I too read that official specs which says 6 months or so...but then, I bought my Nano on Jan 12th (I remember the exact date and the time because of a few reasons, which are not really relevant).

Anyways, today is March 31, and the Setpoint meter shows that the battery level is low with about 30 days charge left. That makes it close to 4 months?

I am not complaining because (1) it is a lot more than my previous Advent laptop mouse (roughly 30 days) and (2) as I mentioned earlier, I end up keeping the mouse on for days on end - I forget to put it off when I leave my desk...

I was just curious, that's all.

Edit: How many of you use the Setpoint software that comes with the Nano? Do you find it useful?

You could have had a bad or somewhat old battery, LSoF. It also depends on how its settings are and so on. But seriously, buy a new battery. A good one. And avoid the rechargeables for this. Something like that may only last for a month or two (before having to recharge it).

You could also buy lithium batteries (no, I didn't mean Li-ion). They will last in a mouse for years.

Got mine in Janruary and it's still ticking. I don't ever turn mine off but it goes to sleep after some inactivity time and when I shutdown my laptop.

What are these lithium batteries? Never heard of them. Who makes them and where in UK can you buy them?

Energizer makes them. They cost more then regular batteries but they do last a very long time. In the USA they are at sams club. I have seen them ocassionally at Walmart. I dont know where in the UK.

Yup, or you can buy them on the web. Search for AA lithium or AAA, depending on what your mouse takes.
Energizer aren't the only ones makin them.
