I just got an XPS M1210 and now I'm looking into getting a docking station for it. I currently have an external monitor, three USB devices, and a set of speakers connected to it.

What is the difference between a docking station and a port replicator? As I understand it they do the same thing but a docking station uses USB while a port replicator has an unique type of port to which it connects. Is that about right? And if so, does that make much difference?

If I get a cheap docking station such as this, am I going to regret it or will there be no noticeable difference between that and a more expensive one. (Edit: I just realized this one seemingly has no monitor port so that's out. Pretend I linked to something just as cheap but with a monitor port).

And finally, is there any docking station or port replicator you would recommend that will work with an M1210?

The M1210 does have have a proprietary docking port so you will be limited to USB/express card solutions.
