    Hi all

Just got my zalman for my inspiron 1720, it seems to run fine, although the fans are much quieter and less powerful than i expected?

I tested it with tissue paper and it's quite obvious that there is no air coming up on most of the right half (some comes up at the very bottom). Tissue paper on the left side blows up while tissue on the right does not move at all. I turned it over to examine the fans and they appear/feel like they're running equally.

Is this normal, any thoughts / suggestions on this? I'm not exactly a technical person so it may be something simple to resolve.

    thanks.

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

How long have you had it?

Make sure you are not using the Zalman on a soft surface (lap, bed, couch, etc..).

Are any of the Zalman fans not functioning correctly... or is clogged with dust?

I had that issue before, and it turned out that there was a clog.. which cause the air flow to be lower at a location on the stage.

Thanks for the welcome, been reading for awhile, never had a question that wasn't already answered.

It's brand new straight out of the box. I suppose it could have gotten clogged somewhere on zalman's end. I certainly don't notice with just observation, ill see if i can get inside.

Have you turned it to full strength?

I have the same issue. I was getting noticeably stronger airflow from the left side than the right, and I thought it was due to the locations of the fans. Anyway, I blocked off about 1/3 of the vents from the left, since my laptop has little or no vents on the bottom left, and I'm getting results I'm quite satisfied with.

Yes, I had the fans on fullpower, im not an engineer but not completely daft. :)

Interesting ghost... yes the fans appear to be running correctly so seems more like a design flaw, I wonder if there is something different about our units though.

My Zalman has even [enough] air through the vents.

You can make an exchange and see if you next unit is better.

Oh, I have to note that the vents on the stage can have different airflow from the notebook's design. If the notebook (or something else) is blocking some of the cooler's stage vents in one area, another area can have more airflow.
