Hey guys, i just purchased the Sound Blaster Live 5.1 external sound card yesterday and..i LOVE IT!
All you need is a USB 2.0 port and your all set!
This soundcard offers great customizability from EAX technology for a greater gaming experience to X-Fi Crystaliser which offers better sound quality on compressed music and movies.
I like this unit better than the other Audigy and X-Fi Xtreme Notebook sound cards because the build seems better and more durable than those cards. They might snap on you easily and that chunk that sticks out of your laptop CAN be a burden.
Since this unit is USB connected, you can place it anywhere on your desk, while respecting the USB cable length.
Also, unlike the other cards, there is a microphone and headphone jack and a volume tuner on the unit for better accessibility. The Sound Blaster 5.1 can be hooked up with 2, 4 , and 5.1 speakers, an amp , and so on...
Here are my ratings for this product.
Music sound quality: 9.5/10
Movie sound quality: 9.0/10
Gaming sound quality:7/10
The reason why i lowered my grade for the gaming side is because this card is made mostly for music and movies, and thus, this card does not focus ENTIRELY on the gaming side.
However, EAX technology destroys that barrier and also, with Creative ALchemy, you can enjoy surround sound quality on virtually all Vista games
Although i am a gamer, i still enjoy this card alot! and i would definately recommend this card for anyone who is on a 100$ budget or less.
remember: The quality of your headphones can also play a big role.
Since im Canadian , this card retails for about 85$ (tax included) in my local TigerDirect shop.
Hope this was kind of helpful!
1 more thing. i would like to know if having an external sound card gives you a couple FPS because it relieves the laptop of its internal processing.
Thanks!
Quick Sound Blaster 5.1 impression
