Not sure if this is the right section but here goes. For my birthday I'm getting a 23" asus monitor. I want to use a dual monitor setup with my laptop so I can play games and search the web at the same time and things like that. So my question is does it matter where the external monitor is located in relation to my laptop? I want to have it above my laptop so that when I move my mouse to the top edge of my laptop it goes to the other monitor and vice versa. How would I set it up that way? Is it even possible or is sideways transition my only option?

    Plug in the monitor. Then:-

    Right click on desktop,
    Select properties/personalise,
    Display settings,

This then gives you the options to enable/disable screens and change resolutions. The two monitors that show up can be dragged around to the orientation on your desk, thus changing which side of the desktop you move the cursor off too change screen.

    Hope that helps
