I have two RAM slots on my laptop. When I use only a single stick on the lower RAM slot, the keyboard lighting and power button light up but they eventually shut down after a few seconds, signalling an unsuccessful boot. Then it tries to boot again, only to fail repeteadly.

When I use a single stick on the upper RAM slot, my laptop boots easily.

What could be my laptop's problem?

But seriously, it's not uncommon for motherboard chipsets to require that you install RAM sticks in a particular sequence. For example, if you wanted to use RAM slot #2, then you have to make sure that you already have something in RAM slot #1.

In your case, your computer works fine when you put RAM in a particular slot. Just put it in that slot, and move on.

Was there a particular problem with that? Or were you just curious why your laptop behaves in that way?
