I'm considering getting a sony vaio SR for college and I would prefer to carry a wireless mouse occasionally because its just easier to use and for the occasional TF2 or CS. I was considering the Logitech VX nano because of the micro USB reciever, but the SR only has two USB ports so I'm wondering if i should consider a bluetooth mouse. I dont know much about bluetooth what are the pros and cons regarding performance, battery life, etc. And if anyone could recommend some good bluetooth mice thatd be great.

I use a wireless mouse with my laptop - Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000. The receiver slots into the USB port when in use, and slots into the mouse when not in use.

Bluetooth mice are very draining on battery life, and I have read that sometimes there is a slight delay or lag in the response times. The other thing to consider is the security aspect of using bluetooth. Plus bluetooth mice aren't cheap either!

If the only reason why you want a bluetooth mouse is because you only have 2 USB ports, then you might want to consider buying a mini USB 2-port hub, which will then give you 3 USB slots.

I have both bluetooth (Logitech V470 and MX1000) and RF (G7 and MX Rev) and I can tell you this:

    1) The battery life is about the same. Only mouse that drains very fast is the G7 and that is because it is gaming mouse.
    2) There isnt much difference in response time. In fact the MX1000 is a better gaming mouse than the Revolution
    3) No one care about where you are clicking anyways.

Reasons to get BT mouse would mainly be to get rid of the dongle. There is also less interference with BT mouse. However it is not as easy to switch between computers. RF mouse are generally cheaper but not by that much. The price diff between the V470 and the V450 is small and even less between V470 and Nano.

I remember early Bluetooth mice models had issues with the connection dropping. Does this still occur or has it been pretty much fixed?

FWIW I have a RF wireless mouse and love it (Logitech MX610), although if I were to purchase a new mouse, it would probably be a bluetooth mouse since I have integrated bluetooth in my laptop (that is, if the connection quality is good).

I have used a Logitech V470 for 5+ months on one set of batteries.

Main use is Photoshop and Web. Works great every time.

It is possible but I havent had any issues. It is mostly dependent on the drivers. My roommate had issues with his bluetooth keyboard but not his mouse ever.

Also lol @ V470. I dont remember ever changing the batteries in it.
