Ok, I'm going through a dilemma. I'm not sure which mouse to buy for a new laptop that I'm going to be buying, probably an ASUS G50vt-X6.
They choices that I've narrowed it down to are the ROCCAT Kone or the Razer Mamba.
Both mice are good but the main dilemma is wired vs wireless. Not performance-wise but in practicality. What are the simple uses of wireless that I will enjoy? Being able to game from 10 ft away?
I will list the cons of each of the mice.
ROCCAT Kone
- Many numerous breaking reports
- Not wireless
Razer Mamba
- No 4-way scroll wheel
- No extra buttons for random macros
- Not as many fancy lights
So this is it. Extra buttons and lighting features on wired mouse vs less buttons but more subtle look on a wireless mouse. Will a wireless mouse be that more useful than a wired one?
Any other mouse suggestions are open for discussion although i warn you I've been through Logitech, Razer, Steelseries websites and didn't like ANY of their mices as much as these two.

hey man do u know where i can get the roccat in the USA
-
I've never heard of the ROCCAT Kone, but if you say it's reported to break frequently, I would avoid it.
I'm normally not too fond of Razer mice, but I see you've already ruled out Logitech and Microsoft, so I would side with the Mamba here. Also, the Mamba has an optional wired mode, so you can get the best of both worlds.
Macro buttons on a mouse are overrated. Any 5-button mouse will be just fine. And my last two mice have had 4-way scrolling, and I don't think I've ever used it on either one of them.
And really..."Not as many fancy lights"? -
dude if you are going to get the razer get one with less dpi because 5400 dpi u WILL NEVER use it
get like the deathadder(2000dpi i guess) or even the lachesis(4000dpi) and they are less than half of the price -
I have the deathadder, I love it and it is awesome.

also, i have a new question for the Mamba mouse. Say i was using this thing about 5hrs a day. After 5 hrs, i turn off my laptop, but i want to charge the battery. How would i charge it without turning the computer on so that the USB dongle can charge it?
Because that would be really pain in the butt to only be able to charge it when the computer is on. Is there a power outlet charger for it? -
also would a USB to wall charger such as this, a basis USB wall charger work for it?
-
The mamba has two ways of being charged. One way is to connect the usb cord like you have mentioned above. The second way is that it comes with a charging dock that I assume charge while the comp is off, much like the logitech mx wireless mice

i have the Kone, and it's fanastic. some minor issues, but it's great to use. i'd recommend it to any gamer.
-
Your help would be greatly appreciated. THANKYOU in advance.
Also about the USB dock, is that so, that it can charge mouse while computer is turned off. Wont that draw power from the computer? That will decrease battery life for my computer so i would rather prefer an item like this but im not sure if it would work or not. Please reply back, anyone who can help. -
actually, you can check out my review of the Kone for hookedgamers. the only update would be that every now and then (read: 2-3 weeks), the TCU will go totally crazy. a re-calibration fixes this though.

That Roccat Kone mouse looks like a ripoff from Logitech's MX518 line. The only differences being some gaudy lighting effects and an internal weight system. In any event, I would consider the G5 or the G9 over it.
Personally, I feel that the Mamba is a piece of crap; Razer is well known for shoddy construction of their mice. Besides which, their mice are incredibly over-priced and over-hyped for what you get. -
any more responses before i buy the beast which is the razer mamba. The mamba seems to me as the best gaming mouse in the world. That is what im trying to get at least. A really good or "best" mouse in the world. I think roccat is the best wired gaming mouse. Better than G9 (hate shape, not many hot keys) or the lachesis (again, the shape). The steelseries are good but i would rather choose roccat for nice colors. The light rail really makes me love it. About the G5, taht was my original intention but its really old and outdated.
Wireless GAMING GRADE FTW!!!
I love the mamba, how do you guys think it will pair up with the razer destructor. I'm getting major discount, total should be around 170USD, for me especially (china, cough, cough) 90USD for all. -

razzzzzzeeeeeer best ever :x
-
So basically, this mouse might be the best mouse to date. -
Take a look at
SteelSeries Ikari Laser
or
SteelSeries Ikari Optical
or if u can find still a SteelSeries IME3.0 SS that would be great -
Personally I would look at a logitech for a mx518 or G5. Both are corded and comfortable. And if you are skilled with a soldering iron the cords are easily shortened to a length more suitable to to laptop use.

Also to other people who are suggesting mice, i love your feedback, and i looked at the ikari but its really simple design, my friend has it, he says its good though. I still think for wired mice, Roccat KONE is looknig to be the best. What i really want to find out is if their are some small companies like ROCCAT, that dont receive much public attention but still have great products. I would like to see if any of those companies have any good wired gaming mice. Thanks for your feedback. -
And as a point of fact, I did recommend a few alternative mice to you. However, you shot them down because they didn't have as cool as lights as the Roccat, or the price tag of the Mamba. You'd do well to remember that an exorbiant price tag doesn't neccessarily mean it's better. -
"I didn't know you needed a $130 mouse to be a casual gamer." You dont need a 10USD for casual gaming. Heck you can use the touchpad for casual gaming. Who said i needed this, i WANT this, just for my own pleasure. Im not buying this to become a better gamer with this so called 5600DPI (which is useless, i know). I just want a really nice mouse (the choices have been gaming, but im open to such options such as the MX revolution). I really want suggestions for new mice/feedback from any people who own any listed mice in this thread.
Looking back at your posts, i see uve suggested the G5 and G9. I dont like the G9 cuz its such bad shape, i hate it to its guts, and the G5 is so old and mehhh... I mean its a good mouse but im aiming to get the BEST mouse. G5 isnt cutting it unless they release a newer update.
And to your point about "price tag of mamba." You really think im that stupid as to buy a mouse for no reason other than it being expensive? Do you really think that my whole reason to buying that mouse is cuz its expensive? I've told you numerous times about why i like it and im not going to repeat it again. I hope next time that you comment you will be helpful instead of criticizing me like you have been for all these post just cuz you are a logitech fan, not a razer. -

I'm sure you have bought the Mamba. The Mamba was one of my top choices as well but I am going to lean with Roccat Kone. -
I had a roccat kone it was great while it lasted which was 2 weeks.. the scroll wheel is really adesign flaw on this one.
I exchanged it for an ikari laser which is indeed much less flashier but much more reliable.
I would say avoid the roccat kone. -

Razer Mamba
Wireless/Wired
64KB of onboard memory
1000Hz Polling rate
7 programable buttons
5600DPI Razer Precision 3.5G Laser sensor
Roccat Kone
Wired
Adjustable Wieght
128KB of onboard memory
1000Hz polling rate
8 Programable buttons
Customizable Lights
3200DPI Pro-AIM Laser Gaming Sensor
The Roccat Kone also has other features like it's Intergrated Turbocore and its Tracking Control Unit or TCU and some other techical features. I really like Razer products but I feel that the Kone (on paper) out preforms the Mamba expect for its lower DPI which is still really high. -
Just imagine how well you'll be able to zoom in with your sniper rifle or change weapons without a working scroll wheel on the roccat kone
don't think the integrated turbocore and flashy packaging is going to help with that.
