    You do not necessarily have to buy "for Apple ram". Most if not all DDR2 667 SODIMM should work. Just find the cheapest. You cannot use DDR2 800 however. 2x DDR2 800 sticks wont work for me but 1x DDR2 800 + 1x DDR 667 works with both running at DDR2 667. Just a FYI.

    putting dual channel into consideration, it is advice to get 2 of the same thing

    i was looking into getting a pair of 2gb as well but somehow the refurb mbp came with 4gb instead of 2gb which was spec'ed for

    i am one partly lucky customer (not so much after the cost of around 1.8k)

    You will run dual channel as long as you have two sticks in it. It will either work it will not as the MBP only runs at DDR2 667. Does not have to be the same.
