So my trusty Zalman NC2000 cooler of roughly two years has developed a rattle. (Left fan when looking at it from the top, if that means anything).

Tried undoing the four screws visible on the top, but it looks like they're just decorations. I'm guessing the "real" screws are under the rubber feet, but I'd like to know for sure before I start tearing them up willy-nilly.

My Google-Fu turned up nothing useful.

Anyway, basically I'm looking for two things: The right screws to undo, and what fans are able to replace the stock ones. (Or if someone knows how to lubricate them correctly, I'm all ears).

Eh decided to just wing it. Disassembled it and sprayed some WD-40 into the offending fan. Working rattle-less so far.

Do NOT use WD-40, it eats trough plastic (trust me)

Try using Jig A Loo, CRC, or PenRay silicone spray. These are plastic safe.

Uh-oh. Time to take it apart again.

I suggest you also take apart the fan and clean the bearing. WD-40 is truly a plastic killer.

I wonder why many people still use it to lubricate plastic though >_>

Well, on the site it says it's safe on most plastics. The fan blades aren't polycarbonate, right?

WD-40 has ruined enough of my Rubik's cube collection >_>

That's why I don't trust WD-40 lubricating anything plastic. EVER AGAIN lol

    Haha.

On a side note, what kind of fan could I get to replace, in the event the completely die on me?. They look like this, and are 2-pin connectors:

They're "directional" (I don't know the correct term for those kinds of fans) so a run-of-the-mill 60mm probably wouldn't work, would it?

I have no idea where to buy 5v squirrel cage fans (or whatever these fans are called)

    Sorry :(

Btw, did the silicone spray did the job? No more rattle?

As of this time, no more rattles. Time will tell. I had to buy the spray, since I don't have any, but I had to go to a hardware store, anyway. Frigging flush lever on the toilet was broken.

And man, I hope someone knows what type of fans those are. I could really go nuts if I could find something with similar specs.

    *Googles*

    No results :(

But the brand of the fans do exist though
