I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but I tried looking and couldn't find the answers i'm looking for.

I own MSI GS70 Stealth laptop (preinstalled windows 8), and bought razer Blackwidow tournament edition keyboard (its mechanical) for gaming.

Whenever I try to plug in the usb cable to my laptop, I get a pop-up message saying "USB device not recognized, The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it."
So I thought of changing ports to try different ones, and all with the same message

I got another MSI gaming laptop (older one with windows 7) and it works perfectly plug-and-play, tried it on my pc also works great, I even tried it on my surface pro tablet just to see if the error was from windows 8 but it wasn't and worked on my tablet as well.
so I thought my laptop is screwed, so I tried my older Logitech G15 keyboard on my msi gs70, and as expected it works, also tried using my razer mouses (deathadder and naga) works great.

before I tried returning my razer keyboard back, I tried upgrading my laptop to windows 8.1 then back to 8, then did a full windows reset and also full re-installation of everything (basically went to hell and back!) but the driver STILL insisting to not recognize it!
I tried going to device manager, when I plug it in it shows unknown device and before it was under USB with a yellow triangle with an error code 43 being malfunctioned.

I returned the keyboard back to the store and got a replacement the same day after 3 days of trying to fix it (even the ifixit Microsoft couldn't do it), went back home and plugged it in again and STILL the same error message popped up! help :'((

also just to think things cant be any weirder, I tried removing the keyboard's detachable braided USB and used an old USB to try to connect it, the keyboard works! the only problem with it is that the razer keyboard has a curved mini-usb plug that you cant fully connect it
without it being detached easily.. so I have to use its own braided usb that was included (yes I also tried getting a replaced usb, they all do the same thing :"(( )
I'm totally lost now don't know what to do! at first I thought maybe the keyboard doesn't work with usb 3.0 and my laptop does not have any 2.0 usb. but still I tried it with my tablet and my pc with usb 3.0 .. cant figure it out!

Putting the problem on it's head, what about plugging in other USB devices which need power (i.e. not USB keys but things like hard disks) to the same socket? Could be a dodgy connection or something.

Yea I tried that too, the USB socket works with HDD, razer naga, razer deathadder and the Logitech G15 Keyboard all on the same socket

bump. no one has the same problem or solved it before? i'm assuming it might be from the usb driver or perhaps the keyboard driver got corrupted/damaged. but I know i'm not the tech savvy here dunno how to go around it

First of all, forum rules dictate only one bump per 24 hours. Second, you probably have a defective keyboard. The Black Widow is notoriously unreliable, which would be confirmed by the fact that all your other USB devices work fine when connected to the port in question.

Toggle between 10RKO/NRKO mode see if it does anything.

sorry didn't understand what you mean by 10RKO/NRKO ?

EDIT: Solved! thanks for your help! it appears it was compatibility with razer blackwidow TE and OS Win8 using intel's drivers for usb 3.0. Got a replacement with another razer product (ultimate 2013 battlefield 4 edition) and it works!

Cool. That's definitely one piece of info to file away (and incidentally not bother with the TE if it requires such driver shens).
