Hello, im thinking in buying a Razer Chimaera, the 5.1 One. But my friend has a G930 thats 7.1 surround. I dont really know much about audio, and since the prices on both headsets are relatively close, i want your opinion on the Chimaeras.

Razer is a company that uses a lot of deceptive marketing. There are several examples on their website right now of that practice that I could point out, if you wanted more detail.
I refuse to buy from a company that uses deceptive marketing to sell their products. I would advise you to do the same. -
But i already have a Razer Mamba and a Razer Vespula, and i've got to say thats a very good stuff here... i had a Logitech G5 before, and then i bought a G500 but it gave me lots of troubles and i sold it to a friend, who payed like 80$ to repair it or something like that... then i bought the mamba, and zomgbbq... its awesome quality, i dont know why so many people talks that bunch of crap of Razer. i mean, i had a logitech mouse and i enjoyed it like 2 weeks before it brokes... then Steelseries headset that lasted for 1 month before the headstrap broked... and so far, nor the mamba nor the Vespula have disapointed me...
im asking this question regarding the sound quality... -
The Razer Chimeras are so new that there aren't any reviews out yet.
I can say that the Logitech G930's receive excellent reviews from just about every review source. They are the benchmark for surround sound gaming headsets in the ~$150 range. Whenever a review site gets their hands on a ~$150 surround gaming headset, everyone wants to know whether they are better or worse than the Logitech G930's. And it is very rare that something is better.
If you have good personal experience with Razer, and poor personal experience with Logitech, then just get the Razers. Sometimes personal experience is more important than wisdom-of-the-crowd. -
I would get the Razer Chimeras because Razer is solely a gaming company unlike logitech, so they make better gaming peripherals. The Chimeras look way better too.
-
Razer being a solely gaming company won't exactly mean that their audio products are top notch for gaming at the price they're selling it for. Personally, I'd go with Logitech for this one. Yes Razer mice and mousepads are really good but in the audio department, they're lacking quality for the price you're paying.

Virtual Surround vs. Actual Surround
Almost all surround sound headsets use virtual surround sound. This setup uses a 2 channel
headset (1 speaker per ear), but uses a sound processor to create surround sound. A few
headsets, such as the Tritton AX Pro, actually use multiple speakers per ear for the surround
sound effect. The problem with actual surround sound headsets is that sound is often muddy
from the multiple speakers, and they don’t provide very good directional sound. The speakers
are simply too close to one another to be able to accurately discern the direction of the
sound. The use of multiple small drivers also reduces the impact and depth of bass. Virtual
surround headsets do not suffer from these problems, which makes them the more popular
choice for manufacturers. You may be skeptical about the ability of two speakers to be able
to replicate a full surround sound setup, but think of it this way – you only have two ears and
your brain is able to process 3d sound based on auditory cues. Dolby Labs, a household name
in the audio industry, has developed Dolby Headphone, which is the tech that makes virtual
surround possible. All major surround sound headsets on the market (Astro, Tritton, Turtle
Beach, Razer, etc…use the same Dolby sound processor, so this is not really a distinguishing
feature. I was skeptical about the performance of virtual surround sound headsets before
actually trying them, but I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the surround sound.
BTW, logitech G930 for me. not the overpricing marketing deceptive strategy of Razer. -
You necro'd a thread from February for that?

He's a spammer. That is a cut/paste from some internet article.

I'm not sure which of these headsets I should buy either. I love the look of the chimaera, but I'm pretty sure that the Logitech have better sound quality, and likely better design. I just love razer, I have multiple products from them, and I love it. I think i'm going with razer, but I don't know yet!

I can't imagine the sound quality being much different, go with the Razer. I think Razer has better software than the Logitech anyways.
