Blargh it's hard to differ the audio quality properly over youtube :(

I ordered these myself and still waiting for them to arrive. But I didn't expect them to be that small ._.

It is indeed very hard to determine the sound quality. I have tried my best to record this via my Blue Snowball mic. :)

I think buying an audio product from Razer is like buying a car from Apple.

Its going to cost you more than what it is worth, and not something they specialize in where many other companies do so they will have better products.

I could be wrong of course, maybe the quality is good. No way am I wrong about them being over priced for what you get though, Its Razer and that is what they do as a boutiqish brand.

So in essence you may have something like Bose on your hand, quality not bad, just not good quality for the price.

The best way you can do a review on quality is by comparing it to similar products in the same price range. Logitech has tons.

If you find a Logitech product to be more clear, have less distortion, cost less, then it would clearly be the winner.

I have some V20's stowed away, if I got a Ferox I would be happy to do a A/B comparison.

I know, its that gold plated usb connector isn't it dont know what you would do without it.

I have a hard time finding the point of small speakers anyways, 99% of the time headphones are more appropriate. With the G73 or something the built in speakers go plenty loud and dont sound bad.

Using USB for these is also going to limit there usefulness because that means only a device with USB power will run them, and shorten battery life of that device if not plugged in. Id rather then go all out with battery & usb operation, where the USB will charge the batteries when connected so they can be used with other devices. This operation would warrant a higher cost to some extent.

The other thing they could have done if they knew it needed usb was offer USB only operation so that it uses its own DAC and will not need the 1/8" connection. This could make it sound much better bypassing the normally poor quality of onboard soundcards and reduce the cable clutter.

You can't put a price on aesthetics :D

I was thinking of getting these too, m11x speakers suck hard IMO and I love rocking out to speakers way more than headphones (you look stupid singing along while wearing headphones :p) If they are decent and don't cost TOO much more than another brand with the same audio quality then I will probably get them just because they look cooler (don't hate ;)).

These are not usb speakers, they are still traditional analog speakers, they just have usb for power.

If you are buying based on looks, you would end up with something like this.

    USB external speakers :D

@ViciousXUSMC: Rofl, where did you find those? They don't look very mobile though :p I meant you can't put a price on aesthetics objectively but I'm sure you were joking :D

thought I'd jump in on this:

I have a HP EliteBook, and while it is an amazing computer all around -the sound sucks... I guess that is what happens when they put 1 tiny speaker on the bottom of the computer, lol.
Needless to say I felt the need to "upgrade" my built in audio (it is nice to have when listing to music, or watching a movie), but I wanted to maintain my "ultra portability" while remaining cheap and good sounding -not easy I know.

-I first considered getting these Amazon.com: Altec Lansing BXR1220 2.0 Speaker System: Electronics because I used them for a little bit while I was borrowing them from a friend, but they had too much cabling, and were a bit too big for being "portable" (they did sound pretty impressive though)
-Then I found this Amazon.com: Altec Lansing iML237USB ORBIT, Ultra Portable USB-Powered Speaker: Electronics it is super portable, built really solid, has pretty decent sound, a cool "kick stand" that helps in directing the sound where you want it; OH, and it is dirt cheap at $20. Is this a replacement for a decent speaker system? well, no. but it is a excellent sounding portable device (it is only 1 speaker, with 1 decent length USB cord; nice and simple)

If you want a really portable device, That Altec Lansing "Orbit" speaker is the way to go; but if you don't need the ultra portability and simplicity of it, then a bigger system would fit your needs better (one that plugs into a wall)

They seem like decent speakers but the mobility of them hold no appeal to me.

Places i need my notebook for mobility:
    - Travel
    - Class
    - Library
... none of which places you'd be able to use speakers. For good sound on the go, it's all about the headphones. And then a good set of speakers at home that can plug into the wall just fine.

This is something hard to tell from any vids, as I didn't notice the issue until I'd had mine a few days. I've noticed the Ferox units I have will wind up with a lot of hiss/background noise if they're on, connected to an audio source, & powered via USB. Note, this isn't even when playing an audio source, just connected to something that could play audio & is powered up.

You can forget it if I tried to hook them up to my iPhone & have them play the sounds for the alarm clock... The hissing, chirping, & popping sounds that happen when it's all hooked up are enough to keep me awake.

I really do think that the built in amplifiers are taking any little bit of noise that leaks into the audio wires & just pumping it up. Since there are no volume controls or mute settings, these are either on or off & amping everything that passes into them.

Maybe an updated cable design could help out by isolating/insulating the audio pairs more, but I'm not really sure it would make much difference...

Tried contacting Razer, but they only responded with "Noise is normal. Maybe your PC isn't grounded well." Which is funny, since I never said I was using them with my PC. I told them I was using them with different portable audio sources... Ah well.
