I photo edit, video edit, play games, and well you know just web browse.
For my needs would it be better to get a Deathadder or Lachesis? Or you guys can suggest others![]()
I really look at the design and comfort of the mouse. I've heard that the Lachesis feels awkward is this true? And I think I'm more of a palm grip kind of person, I've got long, skinny fingers and a normal palm.
Thanks in advance!
-
I have the deathadder and it is a perfect mouse in my eyes. I have heard some problems with the lachesis with driver support and with the way it sits on the hand. I'm sure that either mouse you choose will be fantastic though
-
+1 for DeathAdder, it's very ergonomic and works fine in Photoshop for me. It's also been great for gaming as well.
My friend has a Lachesis and he really likes it but it may not be as ergonomic for you as it's built for both left and right hands. -
I can recommend the deathadder. I haven't used the Lachesis much, but I have absolutely loved the deathadder. It's been my favorite mouse I've ever used. I have similar uses to yours, and I've beat it up for the last few years, still hasn't given me trouble. There's a review of the deathadder in my signature if you're interested
-
just noticed the triple post (-.-') my internet was wonky sorry!
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
I have a Lachesis. It's the first razer mouse I have ever owned I really like it.
-
i vote deathadder, it is a great mouse.
-
I use a Lachesis and i love it. I'm actually on my second one, i wore down the scroll wheel button on the last one. It's really awkward at first, but you get used to it after a day or two, and it was my first gaming mouse.
I had problems with the mouse jumping on the old one, which was blue, but the new one i bought is red (which i think they released later) and haven't had a single problem with it. -
Go with the DeathAdder for sure. I just got one, and it is one of the most naturally ergonomic mice I've ever used. The Lachesis is decent, but as others have said, it's ambidextrously designed for both lefties and righties, so it feels a little awkward.
-
Neither! Razer mice, in my opinion, are poorly made and much too expensive for what you get in return. To wit, I refuse to spend the extra $20 for a mouse that has a blue LED which lights up three interwining snakes on my mouse.
Well, you're going to get a myriad of responses to that question because everyone has a different "feel" for mice. What one person thinks is comfortable is another person's ergonomic hell. Anyway, having owned a Lachesis in the past, I can say that the mouse, to me, is very uncomfortable to use.
Honestly, if your main criteria for a mouse is ergonomics (as well it should be!) then avoid Razer altogether and pick up a Logitech G9 or G9x instead. These mice come with two removable grips that you can choose between based on your preferences.
Logitech also sells a third grip on their site (and is the one I prefer to use), for around $20 USD. I'm more of a fingertip/palm user myself, so this grip is perfect for me. For gaming though, I use the claw grip that comes with the mouse.
Anyway, the best thing you can do in your quest for a mouse that you like ergonomically is to go to your local electronics store and try them out. The Logitech G9 has been out for awhile, so you shouldn't have a problem finding one to try out. Good luck in your choice! -
I use the Death Adder, i love it i use it for everything from COD4 to 3dsMax. I highly reccomend.
-
deathadder fo sho!!! best mouse (except for my mamba, a wireless version) ever made!! best design for your palm gripping needs.
-
+1 deathadder
-
Looks like I'm going by with the Deathadder.
And I mean I have a Dell gift card which is why I needed to know. Also is there any mouse pad I should get?
Thanks all -
What happened to you going to an electronics store and trying out a mouse that you like? In any case, enjoy your Deathadder. I'm sure the cool, blinky lights is what sold you on the purchase.
-
I don't know why it's such a problem for you... logitech has their share of "blinky" lights.
deathadder is a top performer. -
razer xact mat
-
Well, it's a top performer in the benchmark test and 95% of people recommend it. Yea, I do like the lights, but that's not what sold me. Also, from what I've seen Best Buy doesn't let you try out mouses, I haven't asked but I've never seen when I go and the closest one is like what 30 minutes away in traffic so yea... But it looks really nice too
So any suggestions on mouse pads? Or does any really work? Also, most of the logitechs I've seen are these chrome coated mice which I HATE. Chrome annoys me. I liked the G9... I think. The one that's got like a blue scaly skin and adjustable weight. But Deathadder gets many more good reviews and recommendations. What do you have against Razer?
Edit: Just took a look at top post, I'll take a look at that one! -
The lights I am referring to are ones that offer no real function other than to look cool and appeal to pre-teens. You know, kind of like desktop computer enclosures, the ones with all the gaudy lights, side panel windows, and plastic robot façades. All style sure, but certainly no substance.
ROFL!
It was. The market has since evolved to offer better, much more capable mice than the Deathadder.
There are other options. Staples, Office Max, Office Depot... and seriously, every Best Buy should have an area where their mice are on display, with demonstration units. -
Any opinions on the mamba?
I am debating between the mamba, the deathadder, the sidewinder x8 and the g7. Bonus points for mentioning compatibility with Linux distros.
-
What are your reasons for purchasing a $100+ mouse? Do you need the ability to go wireless and wired? Do you need insanely high DPI? If not, save yourself some green and go with a wired or wireless model with a slightly less powerful DPI engine.
-
I have Deathadder and she is a beauty
-
ROFL? at the liking of the lights? What? I enjoy style, one of the reasons I bought the SXPS. The Deathadder has 1800 dpi enough for every use. I like the design and it looks comfortable. It's got an IR sensor which I hear is the best in the mice business.
-
To each their own, nothing wrong with that. I'm simply speaking from a personal point of view.
So does the Logitech G9.
Yes, but is it? When I bought my Razer Lachesis, I based the purchase purely off design and looks, much like you are doing. To my chagrin, it was the biggest pile of disapointment I've ever invested in. Needless to say, I returned it.
That topic is a hotly contested debate when it comes to comparing IR sensors to laser in gaming applications. Honestly, I don't think it matters. Perhaps one-tenth of one percent of the people that are hardcore, professional gamers will be able to tell the difference between an IR and a laser mouse. -
The G9 is $99.99 and is not on the Dell site. Also that things looks boxy and uncomfortable to me. It also looks like a claw grip. The adjustable weight and grip seems nice but I don't feel like doubling the amount of money I have which would be none since it's a dell gift card.
-
You mean this Logitech G9 Laser Mouse? LINK.
I previously stated this on Page 1 of this very thread... -
Ok I apologize on that, but again I state:
I have Dell $50 gift card. No G9 on the Dell site + $20 even if I found it would be around $65. $20 more than I would need to buy the Deathadder on Dell -
garetjax is just trolling. Aesthetically pleasing lights does not equal poor performance.
For the record, I own both a Logitech G9 (with all three grips) and a Razer DeathAdder. I find the DeathAdder more comfortable and natural than any of the G9 grips. Don't get me wrong, the G9's 3,200 DPI is fantastic for extremely high speed stuff, but I honestly give the DeathAdder my vote as a better all around use and gaming mouse. -
i would really reccomend the mamba. its so awesome but that is for a person with like infinite moneyz. lol srsly i got mine at 50% discount from a friend. i love this mouse cuz its a wireless deathadder. if you you are thinking that its too expensive, dont get it. i suggest you spend 40-50bucks on a deathadder which will be just as great if you dont mind wireless. the sidewinder isnt that good...idk dont like the sidewinder series. G7 lags as well so dont get that. If i were you, try the new G500 logitech, deathadder, copperhead (coming with my new G51Vx, looks pretty good) or the good ol' G5.
the destructor mat is my pick, its so smooth altho any razer mat would do your mouse wonders. i really want to get that kabuto one for my laptop cuz its also a screen protector and very portable.
yea man srsly razer DA is way way way way more ergonomic compared to the G9. G9 is for clawers, palmers should stick with DA. IMO G9 is overpriced for what you get. Sure 3200DPI....even my mamba has 5600DPI and i wouldnt give a rat's cuz i keep it at 2000DPI. -
Good luck with that.
I never said it did. What I said was that paying extra money for fancy lights on an otherwise unremarkable mouse, like the Deathadder, is something I would avoid. The extra cost associated with a blue, light-up logo on a mouse simply isn't worth it. And really, aesthetically pleasing lights isn't going to make you pwn harder. -
Obvious troll is obvious
But for the year I've had my deathadder, I woulndn't trade it for anything but a mamba.
On the lights, your hand covers it, so unless your hand is clear it won't or at least shouldn't bother you -
Cry more plzkthnx.
Pardon my next obvious question. If your hand covers the light (which it does on the Deathadder), then what is the point of the light in the first place?
Besides, (and proof that Razer mice are poor quality devices), what is really tacky is that after a few months of use, their black finish wears off, exposing the light through the clear plastic shell. -
Mine hasn't and I've never heard this before
-
haha that made me laugh...coming from the logitech fan, which if i rmbr correctly has the infamous issue with their G5s/MX518s. You sir really are the biggest troll, if you took a moment to see the DA/Mamba, its a nice "unique" finish on the top and plastic on the sides. The rubber-esque top part where the actual sweaty palm will go is one of the best parts about razer mice. It comfortable and DEFINITELY does NOT wear off. I rmbr when i was asking whether to buy the Roccat or Mamba and ur excuse to not buy the mamba was its too expensive even tho i got it for 1/2 price (even then, i told him price wasnt a problem).
edit: off-topic, halofanatic, wats ur gamertag on xbox live? play you in halo sometime lol -
I wouldn't consider myself a Logitech fan. I consider myself someone that buys the best tool I can afford when it comes to playing computer games, regardless if it's Logitech, Microsoft, or Razer. I'm the same way when I build my PC gaming machines.
It's why I built a s939 system when Intel was floundering with their Prescott's. It's the same reason that I bought nVidia cards years ago when ATi's driver support was horrendous. For me, it has nothing to do with being a "fan". I want the best results, regardless of who makes the product.
The Mamba is expensive. How is this an excuse? -
+1 for Deathadder
-
I was interested in the mamba because its wireless with very little lag.
I would like a wireless mouse because I tend to move around a lot, but would also like the responsiveness of a wired mouse. Maybe a wired mouse for gaming and a wireless mouse for portability?
I've gotten so used to my wireless mice for everyday use though
, I suppose getting used to a wired mouse won't be bad.
-
yes you also managed to quote 1/2 the truth, who said price was a problem and if it was then go i wouldnt be asking about it? i told you price isnt a problem...and i would instantly reccomend ppl who want this mouse but are weary of the price to go with its younger sibling, the deathadder. WOW you are quite a piece of work
and regardless, you say you pay for the best, and you say Logitech is the best? not at all, razer is very competent, and for ppl who want a choice you can only offer logitech. you always down razer whenever you can. i can admit personally G9 was in my final pick and most likely if the G500 was out at that time when i bought my mamba, i wouldve bought it. The only reason stopping me from the G5 was the sheer age of the mouse. srsly you should open your mind more. there are greater things out there once you become more flexible.
now to the point...
the mamba is great, the wireless is great. but i must warn you, this is significant. by freedom do you mean taking it easily around from place to place cuz taking the dongle/charger is quite big. if you dont mean it in that way, then you will love the ability to move your mouse without worrying about a cord. and if it loses charge, quickly switch to wired mode and not worry about a thing. for ppl thinking about the battery life, its not bad. i get around week of life doing nothing more then surfing net but i dont game cuz of computer limitation. thats about to change with my new laptop coming up. first think, your paying 120USD for a mouse, in ur opinion do you think 120USD is worth wireless freedom? in my opinion it is, whats urs? -
By moving around a lot I mean I go to the lab everyday then I come back home haha. I would prefer to take my new mouse with me, but I do have a wireless mouse now (its getting old and beat up at 3 years) that could work. I suppose I could get a death adder for gaming/general use at home and just commute the old wireless mouse.
-
yea srsly i dont think mamba is for you as in u move the big dongle around from place to place. get a wired mouse, easier to move around. If you really want wired and dont mind *some* lag, get the Logitech VX Nano. Its truly portable, it has a very very very very NANO receiver. not sure about the lag but its definitely not a gaming mouse. The Orochi is a better alternative tho. its bluetooth wireless but it mite lag when in bluetooth mode (not sure someone mite correct me). the good thing is that its also wired so when ur really wanting good gamer-grade performance, plug the cable in and ur good to go.
-
*Heads Up* There is a Razer Lachesis in the Marketplace for $25
-
Yeah, I saw it, but again, Dell gift card
-
I don't bring my recharger with me to work haha. Unless the dongle is something else?
-
the charger is the dongle as well. The big thing that the mamba rests on is the dongle but i mean. this is an option, not really useful for a wireless mouse but you leave the dongle at home....take ur mouse and the cable to the lab and use it as a wired mouse there and bring it back home and use it as a wireless gamnig mouse??? how boutz that?
-
Wouldn't the charge be capable of lasting more than a day? That way I could just charge it at night and forget about all the peripherals right?
How is the mamba's battery life btw? If its really short then its not really an option for me. -
You made a good choice with the DeathAdder, although I have a Diamondback 3G.
-
yea ofcourse man. it lasts about 5 days for me for casual computer use when just surfing the net. But the point is...you need to bring the wireless dongle, which is the charger to office to use it. Thats y im suggesting you use it at home as a wireless mouse, but at office you use the provided wire and use it as a wired controlle (when its wired, it doesnt use battery if you didnt know, so you dont need to keep a charge in it). so when you are at the lab it would be as if you bought a Deathadder and were using it like one (cept for some minor changes, button spacing/two extra buttons/razer synapse/5600dpi etc). When you are at home where the dongle is...you can have all the features you have at the lab, wirelessly. do you get what im sayin? it might sound a lil confusin...
-
Again, you are misconstruing my words. That is not what I said. I said that I pay for the best tools that I can afford when it comes to PC gaming. I also never said that Logitech was "the best". I said that, in regards to the OP, that a Logitech G9 would suit him better than the Lachesis or the Deathadder.
Wow. Deciding not to buy a particular mouse based purely off its age? I figured it would been based off something more concrete, like, say, cost, or feature set, or ergonomics, etc. -
Excuse me garetjax but, you said a similar thing about the Deathadder in an earlier post. I said it was a top performer and you said it was. While the Deathadder still has many features you would need, just older.
-
Could you post a reference of this please, preferably a link? I'm not sure what you are referring to. Thanks!
Razer Lachesis or Deathadder?
