I just purchased this mouse about a week ago and have noticed that if I scroll fast, the scroll wheel will often times make high pitch squeaks. Does anyone else have this issue on their Mamba?
It almost feels like adding WD40 would help with the squeaking, but I'd dare not try![]()

I've taken apart a DeathAdder, which is designed similarly to the Mamba. The scroll wheel actually only has an axle on one side, and the other side just sort of rests on a plastic bed. Some lubrication would definitely help, although you're completely justified in not wanting to open up your $130 mouse.
Send an email to Razer and let them know what's up; I'm sure they'd let you RMA it and get another one. -
Thanks Mastershroom. I've contacted Razer regarding a RMA and now waiting for their reply. I hope the process won't be too painful.

Its for gaming (cod and assassins creed) in case it makes a difference. The kobalt site gives so many mouses I don't know which one to chose. There are also so many mousepads, for speed, control, and so on. Any idea which one of those is best for gaming too? -
The Copperhead is a pretty good gaming mouse on a budget. I personally recommend the Diamondback 3G if it's available, though; it's the exact same shape as the Copperhead, but with an infrared optical sensor instead of laser, and 1,800 DPI vs. 2,000 DPI. I personally prefer optical over laser sensors, because they can usually reach higher perfect control speeds, but it's up to you really. Either mouse will be great for gaming.
As for a mouse pad, it comes down to personal preference; there is no right or wrong. Speed-oriented mouse pads are good if you like to have very little friction and move your mouse in a wide area very fast. Control-oriented pads are good if you like to make smaller precise movements with your mouse. Personally, I use a Razer DeathAdder with the Speed side of the Razer eXactMat. I keep my sensitivity low, so it leads to a wide range of motion from my hand, and very smooth, quick motions of the mouse. This is just my preference, though, and your own may be completely different. Keep that in mind. -
haha mine squeaks, but as i'm usually wearing headphones i don't really mind.

@ Mastershroom
About that DPI, I thought the higher the dpi the better, but since I have no idea what DPI is and you sugested a mouse with lower dpi i'm a bit confused.
Thx for al the info btw, +1 rep. -

Edit : Forge beat me to it. -
To alleviate your confusion about DPI, it's a measure of dots per inch, which is the number of "dots" of data that the mouse reads and sends to your computer for every inch that you move it. More dots per inch yields a more precise mouse, but like I said earlier, beyond 2,000 or so, you really can't consciously tell a difference anymore. -

I've never actually had to RMA anything from them *knock on wood*. But they've been very helpful with stuff like mouse feet; when my old DeathAdder feet got worn through and the mouse base was scraping on my desk, they sent me TWO sets of replacements for free.

hmm this is weird, i dont hear squeaks out of my mamba...it's actually the opposite, i sometimes hear it out of my copperhead
but, even if my mamba does start to squeak, i dont even mind it, since im used to the copperhead squeaking from time to time.
hope you get it all sorted out david -
Thanks Sach.
So I just e-mailed razer back asking if I had to pay for any of the shipping. If I do, I'd probably just leave it be since the squeaking issue isn't terribly annoying. Though I had to admit I was expecting more from a high-end Razer mouse. I can't say I'm happy with the battery life either (needs to be recharged every 2-3 days) -
raped = got 5 of em through 5 emails -

Well I have had the squeaking issue when I had the Mamba. It shouldn't bother the operations of the Mamba and its really not worth the shipping and waiting time.
Here's a portion of my Mamba story when I said I had one:
Unfortunately, my Mamba did not like me and decided to crap out on me one day in the middle of a CS:S scrim. I have reached Razer about the issue and it took them 15 emails and 3 weeks before they said they will offer me an RMA. By that time, I had bought a new mouse (logitech G500) and I told the Razer brand goodbye. Razer has served me well and I was happy until my 130 dollar mouse crapped out. Now I am using a cheaper mouse with the same DPI settings.
If its an operational issue, send the Mamba back to Razer to get a replacement, that is really the only reason to RMA. -

Man thats crappy david, I would have a few words with them but oh well guess there is Logitech or Coolermaster there for your next mouse purchase.
If this mouse has a problem how come all of you owners admit it now but nobody says anything when we are talking about these mice in other threads... :X -
If you go with USPS, shipping your mouse in the packaging shouldn't be more than 5 bucks or so.
-
well, i've never had that problem, mite be that something is clogged in there or a part has moved slightly to make a squealing sound?
well, i guess some people do get duds. imo, i would never spend $130 for a mouse, lucky i got it for $65
