I got a Mamba yesterday. I installed the driver and the mouse worked great. I downloaded the new firmware update and installed it. First of all, the updater didn't recognize the Mamba via the method in the setup page. So I closed the updater and Mamba started working again. I opened the updater with the mouse turned on and I hit "update" and it started to update. Windows got stuck and everything was shut down. When I rebooted, Mamba doesn't work anymore. It doesn't even light up anymore. Everytime I try to reconnect the Mamba, Windows doesn't recognize the device anymore although it recognizes pluggin and unplugging of the device. The Mamba no more works as a mouse. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Did you read the bit in the upgrade instructions about how it needs to be done with Vist 64-bit? Is it likely that the same applies to Win7?

Where does the OP state that he is using a 64Bit OS?
Nowhere, and not in his sig either (at the time of writing).

If the firmware update messed up your mouse I have a feeling there is little you can do as a disclaimer would protect the company from any claims...

It seems you have bricked the mouse. I myself has had issues running the Razer lachesis software on W7 64bit. It wont detect my mouse.

It says he's using Win7 Ultimate and 4GB of RAM. I asked if he's using a 64-Bit OS because it seems likely and the described problem is exactly that caused by doing the firmware upgrade on 64-Bit vista without reading the instructions.

Is that Ok with you? Or would you rather I not attempt to help the OP and just tell him he's screwed?

    Like this.

Or I could try something really helpful - like.

OP - don't panic, it's very uunlikely your Mamba isn't deaded. If it won't do the firmware upgrade on your machine try and borrow a different machine with a, non-Win7, 32-bit OS and you should find it'll work on there. Then the mouse will work on your W7 machine.

Your original statement doesn't ask whether the OP has a 64Bit OS - it assumes it.
You don't need a 64Bit OS with 4GB of RAM.
    That's why I wrote what I wrote.

And if something goes wrong with a firmware update, in most cases it bricks the device.

But not always. With the Mamba Firmware updater you need to disable driver signature enforcement if you're gonna run it under 64-Bit Vista or Win7. The OPs experience was exactly what happens if you don't disable signature enforcement. So it seems a pretty good assumption that he is using 64-bit.

Ok, thanks for the help everyone. and yes, I do have 64 bit Win 7, hollis. I believe all the m17x laptops have 64 bit systems.

I did disable the driver signature enforcement when i attempted to update the firmware. Anyway, I found a solution of my own. In case this happens to other people, this could be useful. I downloaded the earliest firmware and installed it. version 1.03 i think. Windows recognized my mamba again although it still wasn't working. Then, I updated it to 1.08 and everything's working fine again.
Thank god, i thought i'd have to spend another $130.

nahh. viruses wont do that. they cant make a device just stop working...or can they?

no but its obvious...you were updating firmware so if you disturb teh process then the mouse has no firmware or "driver" to communicate with the computer, so it wont work.

Odd, my lachesis runs fine on w7 64bit. I do recall having to do something special in device manager to install the driver and get the software working. I love the macro function thingy.
