I have the itch to change out my mouse (Logitech MX518). I've been going back and forth on a number of them. While I've generally had bad luck with Razer products, I am willing to give them another chance because many of their mice have specific Mac drivers. I actually gave the Deathadder a go recently and was pleasantly surprised with it. The only hangup was the fact that the OS X mouse control panel would override Razer's software, dialing mouse sensitivity down to basically zero. Someone wrote a script to fix that issue, and it worked really well after that. I also had no trouble with the software on my Boot Camp Windows installation.

I've been looking at the Razer Naga with some interest. I'm intrigued with all the thumb buttons. I would use them as a numeric keypad because the MacBook Pro doesn't come with one, and I don't have space on my desk for a keyboard with a numberpad (I use a Microsoft Sidewinder X6 external keyboard). The overall shape of the mouse looks like it would be pretty comfortable since it's not too large (I have small hands), and it would suit my palm grip.

Would this be a decent choice, or is there something else that would be better?

I'm not sure about anyone else, but I set my Naga up with the basic webbrowsing shortcuts etc, like ctrl-t, ctrl-click etc. Works nicely when I want to hands off browse.

As for using the thing as a number pad, I wouldn't recommend it. I just couldn't pull it off, but maybe you can?

if you get a mouse with built in memory, like the g700, you can set up your profiles, and bring them with you to any computer and any OS. The settings are stored and handled internally in the case of the g700.

That's only half true as it applies to OS X. For instance, mapping browser forward/back is a default action in Windows but basically requires a macro for OS X (command + ], command + [). This would require the use of 3rd party software (eg SteerMouse). That approach has limitations of its own.

I love my naga for all sorts of gaming. I've had this one for a couple years and am planning on picking up another one shortly, best mouse I've ever used. Incredibly comfortable, accurate, and the extra buttons are always convenient no matter what you're playing.

Are you using Razer Synapse 2.0? If so, how is it?

I've got two that I use every day for desktop/portable and I've had no problems with them. The extra buttons are great for anything and easy to re-bind. And if you don't use them all the time, it's still a perfectly functional mouse. Sometimes it gets a bit jumpy around the screen but it turned out it was just small pieces of dirt getting into the sensor area that I couldn't even see visually, but blowing into it quickly has consistently solved the issue.

I have a Naga and love it. Running the 3.0 version of the control software with multiple profiles.

I use it at work, for both Revit and Autocad work. Looking to get a 3dConnection Space Navigator to go with it.

At home I use it for many games. C&C3, Brothers in Arms, Mech Warrior 4, plus others.

It is very durable. I want to get another so I don't have to keep hauling the one I have back and forth from home to work.

Couldn't you just create the macro using the Set Point software. I have the G700 as well and it is probably the best mouse I've ever used. I like it even more than the MX Performance I was using before. Having all of your profiles stored on the mouse definitely comes in handy. I use three profiles. One for Battlefield 3, one for Counterstrike and one for general use. I don't know how OSX works but I know I was able to create any macro I wanted using Set Point.

Does this mouse play nice with the Razer Vespula? I have been eyeing one of these for a while for my FPS and MOBA games.

Which would be all well and good if Logitech made software for Mac OS that's compatible with their gaming mice, but they don't. It's possible to use Boot Camp to install the mouse and create profiles, however, keyboard macros created in Windows don't always translate one to one in Mac OS.

The browser forward/back issue highlights this perfectly. Again, this is a standard function in Windows for any 5 button mouse. The two thumb buttons on my MX518 do this by default. Mac OS can recognize 5 button mice as well, but the thumb buttons do something completely different. I need to use 3rd-party software to re-map them to perform the same functions as in Windows.

Mac OS' command key gets re-mapped to the Windows key in Boot Camp. Similarly, the Windows key on my Sidewinder X6 acts as the command key in OS X. I already stated what the keyboard macro for going back and forward is, and this would be impossible to map to a G700 using SetPoint on the Windows side.

Well, I can't say that doesn't make sense. I don't think there are many "Gamers" using Macs.

    Good luck finding your mouse.
