It's much better than a TV tuner. The new slingplayer 2.0 is great!

Here's some high quality screens I took of the slingplayer:

I highly recommend the slingbox pro for anyone with a laptop. I watch adult swim in my bed wirelessly. With a build in tv tuner I would have to hook up something (and would get near to the same quality I get with sling).

(this isn't advertising post I just got slingbox and am loving it so far!)

If you hook it up to ANALOG cable and pass it through to the TV, it doesn't change the TV's channel because it splits the signal.
If you pass it through a satellite or cable box, then it changes the tv's channel.

I myself have a satellite hooked up TV in a room that my dad rarely watches anything on so I have the satellite to myself at night and analog to myself anytime.

Reason I made this post is because nobody had high-quality shots of the new slingplayer, as well as the quality of the video. The video you see in the screenshots come from S-Video from my Dishpro 301.
