    I'm looking for a 500gb or more external HD, preferably 7200rpm for 150USD or under. I'd like something that can be left on forever and that is reliable and fast. I have a WD 160gb drive and the thing is a bit slow and has problems shutting down, so i don't know about brands. If it works particularly well with Vista that's a plus.

    All help is appreciated, thank you.

    Staples has a Maxtor 500GB One Touch 4 Ext. USB for $89.99 on sale this week. Not sure about the transfer rate..........
