a must- above 18", widescreen, 120hz, and the higher the contrast ratio, the better.

im already looking into the OPTX AW2310 monitor, which looks good, but im just curious to see if theres one that has a higher contrast ratio.

haha, hi buddy, i'm in the same boat as you, between the AW2310 and probably something else.
I'll keep an eye on your thread and see what folks have to say.

    Cheers

EDIT: the Ultrasharp 2410 seems attractive too, being a IPS panel with 1,07 billion colors  and 1920x1200 but only 60Hz :/ idk gaming wise.

IPS panels tend to have higher response times so for gaming it might be a bit slow. You'll never notice the 10bit screen vs an 8 bit anyway. Human eyes can't really see beyond 100 shades of grey, or 100 levels for each channel in terms of screens.

okay, well thats good to know.

but im still looking for a screen with a 120hz refresh rate.

yeah i agree w/ u, the u2410 does look good, but ive never had a 120hz moniter, (and i want to try one for myself) so the 60hz is a turn-off

LOL I was in this same situation so I just bought an ASUS VG236HE without the 3D vision bundle for $350 CAD. From the reviews I have read it is very good. If you are willing to spend the money and don't care about the nVidia 3D, the SAMSUNG S27A950D looks very nice. I will let you all know how the Asus monitor is when I get it.

hey, 3Demons, take a look at the BenQ XL2410T.
I was just about to pull the trigger on the AW2310 to match everything and while i was looking at some review comments i saw a guy posting this model.

It's also LED :D and cheaper. IDK their warranty policy though but i think i'm going with this one.

    Cheers

EDIT: and here's a guy that has both, not a professional review and his benq might not be calibrated, he makes it so hard now

thanks man, ill take a look into them.

edit: well, i looked at that, but if i get one, i get the AAFES discount on the AW monitor, so itll basically be the same price. i dunno...

what do you think is better to go with, LED? or IPS?

IPS generally has more input lag, so if that will be a problem for you go with LED.

That's great if you can take advantage of the discount, here's like 450 euro lol.
Honestly idk if that "input lag" is really that noticeable but personally i would love good colors.
for now the AW is on top for me (warranty and build) vs the Benq (apparently not such a good design and idk their warranty policy but LED :D)

Make some space because there is no decent 23" 120HZ monitor they all dim and the colors are bad I believe me I try the Alienware one and Acer they all use the same panels but this 27" is very bright like 500 nits and the colors are so good :)

no problem you won't be disappointed this is the best by far ;)

yeah, but thats pretty expensive... lol. i wish i could justify another 300$.

edit: i do have a question that came to mind, if its only a 2d game, will it still refresh at 120 FPS? or will the 120 hz refrash only go when 3d is activated?

yes even if you not on 3D the refresh rate stay at 120HZ and remember that this comes with the glasses and the built in emitter I am not saying that justify $300 more but that the extra size and the quality panel do ;)

thanks for the rep my friend ;)

Speedy, does playing at 120hz make it system demanding? Im worried about how much my 5870m can handle.

Playing at 120 hz would not affect performance in 2D mode. Most monitors cap out at 60 hz, which means that any framerate above 60 FPS isn't actually displaying more frames per second (since the screen can't update faster than 60 times per second). With a 120 hz screen the monitor can physically display up to 120 frames per second; however the human eye can't discern more than about 60.
Basically if vertical sync is enabled your maximum framerate will be 120 with a 120 hz monitor and 60 with a 60Hz monitor. Your video card will still be able to pump out as many frames as it can regardless of the maximum framerate the monitor can do.

Of course in 3D mode you have to render from 2 vantage points, so it will be more demanding to get the needed 120 FPS (to have 60 FPS from both vantage points)

I just got my ASUS VG236HE! It's amazing so far. 120Hz is awesome. I can totally tell the difference while I am gaming. This is the best monitor I have ever seen, and I haven't even adjusted the colour settings! I recommend this to anyone who wants a good and not ridiculously expensive 3D 120Hz monitor. No noticeable input lag or ghosting for me.

Thanks, I prefer glossy actually. I didn't want a monitor with a matte screen.

I see it already comes with a HDMI cable so i'll first test that one to see if i can get all features. If that's the case i won't bother spending on a expensive one.

I will be taking photos for you mate, no problem. What made me take this decision was Dell's warranty and the high prices here of similar monitors.

there are pretty cheap cables at monoprice, i dunno how long you want it, and i wanted to try that one, then theres another website called Cables for less. the reason id buy another cable would be to make sure that its 1.4 and has 10.2Gbps (bec/ it then supports 120hz refresh). just a friendly tip :)

and thanks in advance for the pics!
