You should check out the nbr cooling guide and NBR Cooling Central
The NZXT cryo and the Zalman coolers get a lot of praise here for being quiet and very good. The Zalman ones are a rip off to me, because you are just buying the name.

If you want real cooling power, you should make your own laptop cooler. No laptop cooler you can buy has good fans in it, they all have their cheap low quality fans. If you want high quality fans than you would have to make the cooler yourself as did I. I used three high performance industrial grade fans from EBM Papst in my cooler. They push over 1000cfm of air volume, which keeps my system cool. For most operating time, the fans run at a very low rpm, still outputting around 300cfm which is still 10x more powerful than anything else on the market.

Also check out undervolting to keep the cpu running cooler.

Second X2P's suggestion. Also, I'd go with the Zalman. Best cooler I've ever seen--sometimes I turn it off by accident trying to turn it on because I can't really hear it working, it's that quiet. It keeps my laptop cooler by a couple of degrees than if I were using the CoolerMaster Infinite, which is what many others here on NBR use as well, due to nice positioning of vents.

Please indicate the size of your laptop.

For size 12.1" to 14.1", try the Vantec Lapcool 4
for Size 14.1 to 15.1", try the Coolermaster Infinity/Zalman 1000
For size 15.1" to 17.1", try the Zalman 2000

FYI, for those who are not obsessed with the look and want to DIY,...

    1. Get an inexpensive two fan cooler with a platform that's larger than your notebook.
    2. Go buy some 3/4" w. x 1/4" to 1/2" H. self adhesive backed foam strips (insulation) and stick pieces onto the cooler platform to create a seal against the bottom of your notebook (when laying the computer down) as close to the edges as possible.
    3. Place notebook down & turn on cooler.

This will force the air through your notebook openings on the bottom of the case. I simulated this with some kitchen towels using a Dell E1405 and a Vantec LapCool 3 and sealing the edges dropped the CPU temp another 9 degrees lower than by my placing the notebook on top of the cooler w/o a seal.

again...not sure why u guys blindly throw out the zalman cooler and misinform people...

the zalman will not cool his laptop as good as other coolers with different fan placement. the notepal infinite wouldn't be too bad for general cooling cuz the vent/fan location of the np5793 is pretty spread out.

i think there was also a review for the Enermax Aeolus or somethin similar. the results didn't come back to positive, so take that for what its worth. that cooler looks kinda gimicky to me.

i have seen the zalman 1000 and 2000 laptop coolers, and in my opinion they are overpriced junk.
they use low quality scythe rebranded fans which are also crap to begin with. The quality of the aluminum is okay but the fans are rated at a much higher air volume than they actually deliver. Basically you are buying the zalman name. Its not a great product, building your own laptop cooler is the best way, cause you choose the materials, and you can mount the fans so that they are located where your laptop vents are.

My ebm papst fans spin my dell fans at 7000rpm, and my dell fan is physically unplugged from the motherboard, and my cpu temps never rise more than 10-15F above room temperature, and I donate 100% cpu load to World Community grid.
The power of a real fan is amazing :D
