Since the time to head off to Uni is creeping ever closer I'm beginning to look into all the extra bits and pieces I'll need for going there. One thing that I will evidently need is a laptop bag. I will be using the bag to carry around my 12.1" ultraportable, textbooks, notepads - the usual studenty affair. I'd quite like a decent bag that will offer good protection for my laptop (it will also be in a sleeve that I already have however) and will have plenty of space for anything else I may need to carry. I'm looking at spending a maximum of £60 (roughly $100) on the bag and I don't mind buying online so long as I can see the size and dimensions before hand -after all, a bag for a 17" laptop would certainly be overkill!
Any makes in particular worth looking into or are there companies that specialize in smaller messenger style bags?
Thanks for your time!

I recommend the Targus Urban Messenger bag.

It's made for notebooks up to 15.4".
I'll be writing a review on this briefly, so if you're interested, check the main page occasionally.

Matt, what messenger style bag would you suggest for a 12'' ultraportable notebook?

Hmm... well, you options are pretty limited since ultraportable notebooks are still relatively rare. However, here's a couple options.
Targus 13.3" CityGear Atlanta Messenger [$30 @ Targus]
Targus CUL500 Urban Reversible Messenger [$34 @ Amazon]
Sony VAIO Sport Messenger Bag [$38 @ Amazon]
MacCase 12" Messenger & Sleeve [$50 @ Amazon]

I have heard good things about this place. -
I like my Targus Urban Messenger for my Toshiba A105-S101. My only complaint is that they didn't build into the bag a specific location for a power supply brick. It has a zipper pouch for it, but usually end up putting the into the back slot. This is appears somewhat bulky to me, but I live with it since I don't want tohave that zipper pouch hanging out side.

I think Matt you have a good variety of laptop bags. Looking very nice and black color is more attractive. Thanks for sharing
