I'm looking for a cooler for my 15.4 laptop and its harder to find than i expected. Preferably I'm looking for one with three fans as my laptop has exhaust slits on the left and the centre but not the right. Also i'd like it to be fairly quiet as i'm sure the added noise would get irritating.

    Any suggestions?

Cooler master notepal infinite and Zalman NC1000 seem to be the best/most popular on this forum.

    Check them out first.

Ok, I've had enough of these posts asking for which notebook coolers to buy. Go do a quick search and there would be millions of these posts. Personally, I don't need all the features of the Zalman and I bought the Antec Cooler. It was only like $11 after rebates. It's extremely rare that a notebook cooler would come with three fans. Most of them including the Antec Cooler has two fans. It's really quiet and I would say it's quieter than the fans on my laptop.

Right now (on the road) I'm using a Belkin Laptop Cooler. It's a wave shape and has a single fan in the middle. The shape seems to make a significant difference. It's usb powered, quiet and darned if it doesn't cool down my notebook as much as my Vantec Lapcool2 on my desk. I think I may use it all the time.

GPU no cooler: 83-84 at idle.
With either Vantec or Belkin: 76-77-78 at idle.

The Belkin is 29 bux at Best Buy, and fits easy into a bag.

EDIT: The temps above are for GPU using Riva Tuner.

Regretably ALL Coolers which draw power from the usb
will invariably draw more power from the internal power supply
than thay can effectively cool the laptop Besides lowering the
battery life they are inherently inefficient. While the surface area
that is being cooled may have a lower temperature the internal
power supply will be generateing more heat Not a lot but more.

A laptop can achieve more efficiency in cooling simply by inclineing
the laptop since heat rises and radiant heat is not reflected back

If you must use a fan use one that is externally powered one

More info on cooling can be found here

my Vantec is external powered....this Belkin works just as well and is portable, hence I like it :D BTW, I never run on Battery except to condition the battery once in a while.

to save money i would go with a passive cooler, like a regular notebook stand that elevates the notebook and lets air run underneath. i've found that it makes the notebook run cooler than it sitting down on a desk or something. but thats only if you want to buy something cheap, i think that they work good enough.

I dont see the point of buying passive cooling stands.. If you want passive cooling, shove a couple stacks of playing cards or books at the end of the laptop (being sure to not cover any vents) and theres your "stand".

now I have the Zalman NC1000 and love it.. it lowers my temps by ~10'C both under idle and load conditions
