Recently, my laptop's fans have been coming on quite frequently and heats up very easily. This really bothers me because 1. I just bought the laptop over Christmas and don't want it to overheat and 2. I have OCD and worry too much that my laptop will overheat and break. Can anyone recommend a cooler for my laptop? The GPU fan is located near the back of the laptop (where screen joins body) in the center, so the Zalman NC1000/2000 will not work. Thanks!

    Here's some statistics
GPU idle: 50-55 (with bottom cover on)
GPU idle: 40-45 (with bottom cover off)
GPU gaming: 75-80 (with bottom cover on)

i know u'll like this comparision. NZXT cryo LX the CTS-V of coolers. ;)

before u go out and buy something tho. u should take off the panels and hit yur internals with some compressed air. see if the heating problem is just simply some dirt build up. another thing would be to elevate the rear of yur laptop to make sure that it gets ample air flow under it.

They both have some bold lines and things that can spin very fast (and way overpriced)... I'll check it out though :D

I just removed the bottom plate on my laptop, the GPU fan is actually in the back corner. The Cryo LX doesn't seem to have openings for the fan near the back corner... What cooler would work? I'm currently looking at the U2 and would like other inputs as well.

the cryo LX would be perfect for laptops with their fans in the mid to rear area. it was built for gaming/powerful laptops in mind. the majority of gaming/powerful laptops all have their main GPU and CPU vents towards the mid or rear. the cooling surface is huge and the whole thing is like a heatsink cuz it's made of pure aluminum. it'll most likely cover yur HDD slots as well.

Before shelling out money on an expensive laptop cooler, try just elevating the laptop so that there is better airflow under it. And check out the undervolting guide on these forums. Both of these things should drop the temperature by a noticeable amount.

I picked up a Coolmaster infinite pad. Seemed like a good compromise between price, performance and weight.

I'm looking into the Cryo LX as well. But I need it to fit in my laptop bag, and does it work if it only uses the USB? Also, how much cooler does it get? Does it keep the GPU temp under 84C?

My laptop is always elevated (by two stacks of 100 notecards, or by 2 decks of poker cards). When it's elevated, the GPU idles at around 50-55 degrees. When it's elevated with the bottom plate removed, the GPU idles at 40-45 degrees. When gaming, it goes up to 82 degrees (with backplate). Haven't played games with the back plate off.

Mine is just angled by the 9cell battery. I'm thinking either this or the Zalman NC2000.

I'm currently trying to get my GPU temp down to below 84C so I can enable the PowerPlay in the ATI CC, and let my video card run wild without being throttled.

You really need to figure out where the vents are on your laptop. If they are in the back I would go for the NZXT. If they are in the front go for the NC2000.

I believe the vent is in the back....so NZXT it is! Thanks!
