    Hello everyone,

I got a Vostro 1500 a few weeks back, and now that school started, I took it to my dorm. My dorm is really hot, so the computer gets even hotter. Which is why I need a cooler.

Can anyone recommend a cheap yet efficient cooler?

    Thanks

Consider the Targus Tornado Chill Mat. It is pretty good, and cheap. The Zalman NC1000 is a popular cooler as well. Vantec also makes good coolers.

Are coolers actually necessary. I'm new to the world of laptops, I literally ordered my laptop the other night and I want it to last as long as possible.

It depends on what you're doing and where. If the ambient temp where you are working is cool, you might not need one. If you are only sufing the net or using Word, probably not. When you start using GPU or CPUi ntensive programs (games, video editing, complex calculations) then it's a good idea.

Think of it as preventive maintainence. Components which run cooler genrally will last longer. Heat is the enemy of electronics and it's wise to do reasonable things to keep the heat load low.

I'd like one exactly like this, but without the electrical hardware. My brother has one, and my tablet stays very cool on it without the fans. If you want the fans, this cooler seems very well made, and my brother says the fans are almost as quiet as his laptop...which must be really good because I've never heard his laptop.
