Hey - i'm looking for a monitor for my laptop.
I'm looking for something along 21" - i hope to find something with a fairly good price, good color contrast and good viewing angles. It would be a BIG plus if it is able to take a TV-input.
I hope i can get some help :)

Good panels under 32" are rare. Most of them are TN type, same as cheapo LCD monitors. No good colors or viewing angles.

UltraSharp U2311H 23 inch Monitor Details

That one does not have tv-tuner but it has IPS panel. It will provide very good user experience both desktop and tv use. You can lean back on your chair and picture does not turn into negative image :p

To get TV reception either plug in external box or get usb tuner for your computer.

definitely get an eIPS panel if you can afford it...

i have two Dell 2209WA (eips 22" 1680x1050) and one V7 no-name TN panel (22" 1680x1050). the difference is obvious when you look at the two

    ST2220T is the current HAWTNESS!

If I didn't already have a big IPS display, I would be all over this.

I'll second the Dell 2209WA's. Bought two of them when Dell was selling them for $210 a piece and free shipping some time back. Great monitors, perfect color gamut, good response time and viewing angles. Couldn't ask for anything more, really. Just really terrific IPS monitors.

    Thanks for your help :)
People generally seem to agree about the Dell being a good monitor - so i think i'm going with that! - Just gonna go to my local computer store and talk about the usb-tuner. Might even look into getting an USB-Hub. For my home-setup.

Thinking a little again after showing this to one of my friends.

    Edit:
This monitor doesn't seem to come with HDMI and a response time of 8ms.
I'm just wondering how "bad" this is, if i also wan't to use the monitor to play FPS and Starcraft 2.

If you are talking about that specific monitor I linked...

    Connectivity
1 Digital Visual Interface connectors (DVI-D) with HDCP
    DisplayPort (DP)
    Video Graphics Array (VGA)
    1 USB 2.0 upstream port
    4 USB 2.0 downstream ports

It already has built-in usb hub and you need HDMI to DP or DVI adapter.

Response time and how it feels while gaming really depends on person. I remember testing 15" Philips LCD at work almost 10 years ago, it was 25 or 30ms and even that was playable.

Hmm - maybe i should go for it an order a cable aswell..
The one thing that's still keeping me away is the fact that i would need to buy and USB converter to watch TV on this monitor.
And i don't really know much about that.

You may be tempted to buy a 21"-24" HDTV, but I wouldn't do that because in this size range, all HDTVs use pretty crappy LCD panels.

Why not use a 27-32" 1080p LCD as a monitor? They don't take up much more space than a 21" screen (5-6 inches horizontally).

I grabbed an LG 32LD400 for $350 and I am using it with my Mac Pro. Seems OK to me.

    compare a 22" at 1080p and a 30" at 1080p

first, you probably have to sit further back for a 30". secondly, the pixels on the 30" are bigger; you just get a bigger overall size. I don't like big pixels :| Thirdly, panels on the 32" TV are more optimized for video watching(probably TN, higher input or refresh lag) compared to a regular LCD panel

I approve of it. It has usb hub, tilt/swivel/height/pivot rocks :D

Berenja, you are in luck because the Dell 21.5" U2211H monitor is on sale for $195, with free shipping. Look it up on the Dell Small Business site and use coupon code X$0SQC0B7J0JBN . This monitor has 1920x1080 resolution, much higher than the 1680x1050 of the Dell 2209WA mentioned earlier. I already have tons of nice monitors (see my signature) but am tempted to get this one!

32" and bigger are something else than TN panels. IPS or PVA, it doesn't really matter, they are all better than TN in all other respects than pure speed.

The reason i don't want to buy anything bigger than a 26" is that i pay a tax (in Denmark) multimediatax, and that allows me to buy a monitor up to the size of 26" , because i work from home. Now i can get the monitor paid by my employer and therefore saving the normal 60% taxes we have in Denmark :)

Thank's for the recommendation on the 21.5" :)
    I also got the 23" recommended earlier : ( http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=usl=en&cs=19&sku=320-927 )

So now i'm just trying to figure out if i'm willing to pay for the bigger screen size - or if 21.5" would do the job.
So - other than the difference in price & size there aren't any differences between these 2 monitors, or did i overlook anything :)
