    Recommendations for an USB Blu Ray (BD) drive

    I just ordered an Asus UL30VT-A1 and I'd like to get an external USB powered Blu Ray reader, CD/DVD writer drive for installing software and ripping CDs, DVDs and BDs (for backup of course) Can anyone recommend any specific USB drives?

    I've found a few on Newegg around $150, a few on eBay for around $100, but I found these two for even less from eeshops:

    • SONY Blu-Ray Player Combo BC-5500S USB External DVD Drive for $73
    • Pioneer Blu-Ray Player Combo BDC TS02 USB external DVD Drive for $69

    Not sure about how reputable eeshops is, but I would go with the Sony if I were you. Looks like the drive I have (IIRC) and it works very well.

    Thanks, I may pull the trigger on the Sony unit.

    FYI - eeshop has an eBay Marketplace too (with lots of positive feedback), but it is a few dollars cheaper ordering direct.

    Gotcha. I did get mine off of eBay from a fairly reputable seller in Taiwan. I can't remember exactly who, though ;)
