Hi, as the thread states, i need a new 27" or so monitor.
I dont really have a fixed budget so id like 'the best' one.
Ive been looking at IPS monitors but i do a lot of gaming and ive heard the high input lag might cause ghosting issues.
Ive also been looking at Dell's U2711 IPS display, it has great reviews from what ive seen and it is on sale in my country (about US$705).
But again im worried about input lag, even though some said it is not noticeable.
If its not IPS i wouldnt mind other panel types that has vibrant colors, like LED backlighting. But 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 resolution is a must.
Lastly, I had a look at 120hz monitors too but im afraid i do not have a dual dvi connection on my laptop.
Oh and id prefer fully adjustable monitors with raise functions and multiple USB ports are pros for me too.
So please give me some good recommendations, Thanks.

Id have to say the U2711 is very very nice for most tasks except for gaming. While the input lag is very subtle to none, the lag you should be worried about is from your graphics card trying to push the 2560x1440 resolution. Thats nearly twice the pixel count of 1080p.
Heres my little gripes with the u2711, which i currently own:
- At full brightness the CCFL eats up about 130w (according to my kill-a-watt)
- Emits a lot of heat. If you put your face close you will feel convected heat.
- HDMI only supports up to 1080p (but i believe there is a fix now)
- Takes a few mins for CCFL backlight to normalize. (its usually duller at the start)
- Make a small audible buzzy noise when going to standby
- Some complain about that Anti-Glare coating but i have no problems with it
Now here are the Pros:
- Image Quality is superb (110% gamut, 12bit processing/10bit color, thats 1.07 billion colors compared to 16.7million on most panels)
- Color Reproduction is accurate (Supports sRGB and AdobeRGB color space)
- Viewing angles is very good
- Very bright, my brightness is set to 50%
- A variety of analog and digital inputs (VGA/DVI/HDMI/Component/Composite/DisplayPort)
- Supports Display Port input (for future proofing)
- Build quality of monitor is excellent
- Has built in Memory card reader and USB ports
- Dells OSD is very easy to use
Its really more suited for productivity work like graphic designers, photographers and such.
If your serious about gaming and still want an IPS panel but with low input lag, you will need to get a monitor with no OSD. Dont get me wrong i still use it for gaming and kick butt better than my 24" TN . When using sniper weapons your field of view is unreal. -
Thanks for the responce, i now realise i actually have dual dvi connection and would rather go for a 120hz monitor since i do a lot of gaming. i prefer at least 24" and would like recommendations for one with vibrant colors. And also which is more demanding on the graphics, 1920x1080 on 120hz or 2560x1440 on 60hz?

The new samsung 120hz LED 3D monitors was my second choice but I don't game that often anymore so I went with the dell.
Refresh rate doesn't/shouldn't affect performance afaik, its just the rate the panel refreshes itself. Maybe if you try v-sync it at 120hz... -

U2711 as long as its past Rev02 or 03
Never buy a Dell monitor when its a new model, learned my lesson the hard way twice.
The Ultrasharp monitors are targeted at people that demand color accuracy and view angles more so than cost efficiency or gaming performance. Its like a good middle ground for graphics professionals that do not want to over pay for something like an Eizo.
Gaming is great on the 3xU2410 setup I have, no lag even in SRGB color space. -
are there 27"ers that AREN'T IPS or PVA?
Recommendations for great 27" Monitor
