Recommended Gaming Mouse (Logitech, Razer, Microsoft)

I'm looking to replace my Logitech LX8 Wireless Laser Mouse. It's nice and all, but it just doesn't feel right to me anymore, plus I've had times where it doesn't work properly for me.

I'm a casual PC gamer (hardcore Xbox 360 gamer) but I'm looking for something really good that'll last me a long long time. I'm not sure if I should go wired or wireless (this is for my laptop). The games I have are StarCraft II, BF2, R6V2, SC:CT, GTA1/2/3/VC/SA, and CS:S. Although I play SC2 most and almost never play the rest. The only other PC games I can see myself getting in the future is BF3 (even though I already pre-ordered for Xbox 360) and SW The Old Republic.

With a budget of $50-$100 (however, I'd rather stay under $70), what gaming mouse would you recomend for me? The only brands I care about are Microsoft, Logitech, or Razer. Also, should I stay wireless or go wired? (I'm also thinking of buying myself a wired Xbox 360 controller for my laptop, but at this point probably won't be buying)

(Also, just wondering your thoughts on a headset as well. I broke my cheap CyberAcoustic headset and want to get rid of my Turtle Beach X4's by replacing them with a Sennheiser PC 350 headset & Astro Mixamp so that I can get Simulated Surround Sound and use the headset for both my PC and Xbox 360, it's expensive, but if you have used them, what are your thoughts on them?)

 

a razer deathadder would be nice. about 60 bucks. you can get it for about 50 on ebay though. its got 2 extra buttons on the side which should be enough imo. its a solid mouse thats really comfortable (although a little light for me). you can adjust the sensitivity easily in-game and its got some sick lighting .

 

For gaming mice stick with wired, unless you absolutely need wireless. If you're gaming on the run most wireless gaming mice come with a big receiver anyways, making them even more unwieldy than wired mice.

How do you hold your mouse? Personal comfort is the most important spec.

However if you are going to play FPS, go with a Razer. Gotta have wired for FPS no exceptions.

Those look like some decent mice. Is there really that much of a noticable latency difference between Wireless and Wired mice? The one thing that worries me most about Wired mice is tangled cords. As much as this is for gaming (and most gaming I do is sitting comfortably at a desk), I'll also be using this on the go (college) for just basic computing and CAD software. I don't want a cord that gets in the way when I have little space to work with.

The problem I see with the Razer mice that are also wireless is that they use a dock reciever as the station which is too much to tote around. I did see a Logitech mouse Amazon.com: Logitech Wireless Gaming Mouse G700: Electronics that seems nice and the "Nano" reciever is a really nice thing for conserving space. However, I don't need 13 buttons and it looks uncomfortable.

The cost of and appeal of the DeathAdder Amazon.com: Razer Deathadder 3500 High Precision 3.5G Infrared Gaming Mouse (RZ01-00151400-R3): Electronics is really sitting nice with me. Only $50. The shiny sides though seems like they could gunk up with dead skin easily (like an Xbox controller).

The Mamba Amazon.com: Razer Mamba Wireless Gaming Laser Mouse 5600 DPI: Electronics is just plain sexy. It looks like it is really comfortable to hold and the changing lighting and dpi setting are great. Also, a perfect 5 buttons just like my LX8 and even better since the side buttons are on the left, not one per side like my LX8. The price is up there but for $110, if it lasts me over 5 years, I don't mind. The only problem again is the cord, just worried about tangling. I wouldn't use the dock at all on the go as it is too much. Also, what about bringing the mouse around with me, will it be an issue or danger for it to be in my backpack? Is there some type of sleeve I can buy to further protect any of these?

Someone had asked how I hold my mouse, here are some images. Note, the right side button on my LX8 is practically useless since my ring finger cannot easily hit it. I use my left side button as a Tab button for StarCraft II when I have multiple groups under one hotkey since my APM sucks too much to try and control multiple grouped units through multiple control groups.

I highly recommend the DeathAdder. At under $50 on Amazon, it's a great price for a top-notch mouse. It's got one of the best optical sensors ever made, and an extremely comfortable shape. Based on the way you grip your mouse now, I think the DA will fit you very nicely. As for the shiny sides, I would just wipe mine off with a tissue once a month or so and they were fine. There's also the "Black Edition" DeathAdder that's made of a different material, you might want to look into that. Either way, the DeathAdder is easily the best wired mouse I have ever owned.

The Mamba is very nice; it's essentially a wireless DeathAdder, but even I think it's a bit too expensive at full retail price. I got mine for $70 refurbished last year. If I were you, I'd stick with the DA.

As for a good headset, check out the Plantronics GameCom 377. Excellent sound, comfortable design, and a lot cheaper than its sound quality would let you believe

 

The DeathAdder is a good mouse, though I'd also like to throw in the Logitech G9x (which is still on sale for $50 on Newegg, Logitech's website lists it as $80). Comes with two different shells, one for palm grip and one for claw grip (in case you use it for FPS games or whatever). Laser, up to 5700 dpi, can store five custom profiles on the mouse itself (so you can use them on other computer w/o the SetPoint software). You should check it out.

 

Hm, I got to think about this for a bit. I just repaced the keyboard in my laptop ($20 got me a brand new keyboard, and now my keyboard is backlit , the only downside is I need to break in the keys).

If I was loaded, I buy that Mamba in a heartbeat. The DeathAdder and G9x look really nice, the custom features on the G9x are impressive, especially for only $50. I saw they all have braided cables which is important.

 

I've owned the DeathAdder and the G9 (G9x's predecessor). Both good quality mice. I like the shape of the DA better than either of the G9/G9x's grips though. The DA doesn't have weights, but I prefer it as light as possible anyway so it's not really a loss to me. And the braided cable is quite nice.
