I'm in need of a new surge protector for my desktop and new laptop. I've had two before in the past. One of them worked great until there was a blackout. It worked as intended but for some reason some of the sockets no longer work. The other one I got after that worked fine until one day it started beeping and would not supply power. I tried to find a solution but ended up empty handed (didn't really like it anyway since it had only a few sockets).

So can anyone recommend a surge protector that I can find dependable? Having at least 6 sockets would be great.

APC, best brand ive had (recently) their older stuff was junk... One fried when a car hit a power pole causing a power surge and my computer, microwave etc caught fire >.< but their newer stuff has impressed me.

Belkin makes some decent surge protectors. I've had no issues with mine.

One of the ones I had was an APC. It was a couple of years old though. My brother gave it to me since he never used it. It was the one that wouldn't stop beeping...

They are very important since they protect any electronics that are plugged into them. What they do is prevent any electrical surges from going into your electronics and completely ruining them. So unless you feel you'll never get any power surges, I recommend getting one. I didn't think there'd be any for me but I got one anyway just in case. The first one I got protected my desktop from being damaged when a random power surge occurred, but it got damaged itself. Better that than my computer though.

If you have a crappy battery it will beep! :p meaning replace hte battery

I find they are very important a better solution would be to get one for your whole house. its a 400$ investment but will protect every outlet as it blocks your main power cable. I personally In canada use one for the whole house and an apc just to keep the desktop going incase of a power outage

If you have the money, buy a UPS w/ big surge absorbtion and a circuit breaker. They only cost like 1-3k lol haha

The highest the joules the better. Money shouldn't be a factor, the computer is the investment to protect.
