Hi all,
I need a USB Hub (cause my lappy has only 2 USB port). Any recommendation? Thxs

any one will do, as long as it has external power supply.

I'd say maximum of 4 USB port hub if running power from laptop only. Can handle only connecting hardware that is powered itself e.g. external HDD, printer, or a mouse. Definitely can't handle a portable HDD.

Because the Hub is linked to 1 USB port drawing the power that only 1 USB port can supply. In other words, you're taking power from 1 USB port and using it to power FOUR USB ports. This is why you need external power to ensure that all four ports in the hub are adequately powered.
However, if you know that the USB components you will be using do not consume too much power (i.e., if you had 4 thumb drives plugged in) you would be able to get away with a unpowered hub. -
Hm.. so If I planned to connect a mouse, a keyboard, a printer, and an external HD... I need a usb hub with power supply then?

Consider this Belkin 7-port USB hub.

BTW externally powered hubs can also be used as bus powered hubs (without the power supply) if you want. But then only low powered devices (flash memories, memory card readers keyboards, mouse) and devices that use the USB only for data communication (i.e printers, scanners) will work. -
I have always liked this one

Note : Obviously, only one PC can use the hub at a time.

an AC-powered USB hub is like a $10-$20 insurance policy for my mother board.
Recommended USB Hub?
