Hello, I think my wife's laptop HD is dying and we are going to send it for repairs, before we do that we would want to backup everything inside it so we're looking at some stuff but unfortunately we both have no idea about external HDs.
Can you please help me find a very reliable one? max price 120$.
Thanks.

I'd suggest seagate freeagent go or WD portable drives; they are both reliable, Check amazon.com for reviews.

3.5" drives are more reliable than 2.5" drives. Try to get one in a metal case or a ruggedized case if it's a 2.5" one.
Good makes are Samsung, Freecom, Transcend and several others.
I don't know how long Amazon.co.uk or .de willl take to ship to Sweden so you might want to try a local shop. Check out the external HD drive pages on those Amazon sites as a starting point. -
I actually today just bought a 250gb external hdd from seagate the freeagent for $50 from fry's. The manager that was helping me said it's a special so go get it quick! You could buy two of these probably for $100 and get a total of 500gb instead of buying one 500gb for $120

do you plan to travel with the drive or just for backup (desktop bound)?
i think it is best just to get WD Essential 3.5 Drive.
or
you could get WD Elements Portable 2.5" drive . this 2.5" is USB powered. but if you don't plan to move it, the 3.5" drive is more reliable. -
