Hi, i have a pretty old Massive23 ST laptop cooler, thing is the cable that powers the fan has break and I was wondering if just buying a USB to DC cable like this one will work?

    http://www.misco.co.uk/product/2025...5mm-5V-DC-Cable-USB-to-Barrel-Jack-5V-DC-Plug

I say it because the original cable has a switch to power on/off the fan so I don´t know if the cable has something propietary or I can just plug any USB to DC cable

    Thanks

Shame that they put the switch on the cable instead of the cooler itself.

First you need to measure the inner and outer diameter of the original cable's plug to make sure the replacement you buy will fit. If the specs are correct you can get something like this:

You can also try repairing the original cable. If it is damaged on the plug side, you can always cut it, strip the wires and screw it into something like this:

No, the damage is precisely on the switch part, saldy I don´t have the tools to try repair it, I have ordered a cable like the one I linked, I hope it works, I will post here if it does or not

I didn´t care much about the on/off switch anyway, just want to have the fan working again as my HDD is pretty hot without it

Yeah it should work. All they use is the +5V and ground wire so there's no reason it shouldn't work. If the cooler is quiet enough then I guess an on/off switch is necessary.

The cable arrived today, same one as in the original link, it works like a charm.

I am glad because the SSD/HDD temperatures on my P771ZM were awful without the fan, around 45 degrees the SSD and 50 the HDD, now is 38 and 40 respectively
