My current adapter is 65w and it has a tear on the cable near the brick exposing the wires which some are cut. Is it still safe to use if I cover it with electrical tape or is it still a fire hazard. Can I replace it with a 90w one if it has the same specs. as the 65w one or does it have to be replaced with the same model. The best buy site has the 90w one but not the 65w and it's dv 6000 series compatible, which is the same model as my notebook, can I buy that instead, considering it has the same specs. with the only difference in wattage? Will it make the laptop way too hot? Thanks all!

fire hazard, i tried the same thing with my old power brick as i faced the same problem. when i tried it, it started smoking up and had a really bad odor (most likely unhealthy to inhale). I wouldnt take chances with the power supplies, id get one made specifically for my laptop, not a generic.
