I have a Logitech M510 which has worked well for me for a good 4 years now, but it is slowly deteriorating, and I am buying a new laptop anyway so I think this is a good time to replace it.
What I liked about it.
Ergonomics = I found this mouse to be very comfortable to use, it fits my small hands very well.
Buttons = I like the extra 2 thumb buttons
Mobility = easy to just leave the tiny wireless adapter permanently in my laptop and its small enough to travel with easily
Dislike
Glossy surface = minor annoyance
latency = didn't matter much with myold laptop getting only 10-20 fps in games, but I could tell it existed, going to a 980m getting 60+ fps (60hz screen) I think it will make a real difference
Tracking = I have a surface it tracks on fine that I use, but almost 80% of things I tried it failed to register movement on.

What I am looking for:
Wired gaming mouse
Size = similar to M510 (Width= 68mm (2.7") | Length= 121mm (4.8") | Height= 41mm (1.6"))
Buttons = preferably 4-6 button, I like a couple extra well placed buttons, but don't want a 20 button mouse.
Sensor = at least good, does not need to be best in existence, but should not have any major issues
Ergonomics = I really like the shape, so preferably something reasonably similar.

So any suggestions, even if you aren't certain just some names to look up reviews on might help, mice are rarely sorted by similar size and ergonomics.
Edit: adding pictures of m510

If you like logitech mice and prefer their shape, you should just get one of the new one in the line up, I havent tried them but they are getting great reviews.
Take a look at the Logitech g402 and g502. -

I must have forgot what mouse the 510 is, i remembered it as having a more classical logitech mouse shape.
That said:
..........M510...-...G420
Width....68...........72
Length:.121.........136
Height:...41...........41
All of the above are in MM ofcourse.
And if you take a look at the actual pictures of it you'll see that the right mouse button is slightly longer than the left (for 1337 looks i suppose), which also makes the whole mouse slightly longer (but seems to have no change in usability)
I'd say that's pretty god damn close?Ningyo likes this. -
Well a 1/2 inch length is not huge, but not small either on a mouse, thats about 12.5% longer.
Overall looking at 3 reviews of it I feel its a decent backup option to keep in mind. A few things bug me about it though.
- Pulsting plue lighted logo on mouse : I suspect within 2 days I would have opened up the mouse and physically removed the LED
- Mouse is 1/2 longer, and front of main keys are probably 1/4-1/3 inch higher making the entire shape very different
- reviews said it felt better than the g502 for their large hands (makes me think the changed shape would be worse for small hands)
- has 5 extra buttons near the thumb, I could live with them but would prefer only 1-3 -
As I said I think most of that 1/2 inch is in the extended right mouse button, and not actually something that would change the feel of the mouse.
Also the LED's can be disabled afaik.
Edit: It also has exactly 3 thumb buttons, not five.
P.S. I don't like the shape of these myself, so I'm not just a Logitech fanboy trying to shove it down your throat. It was just honestly the best fitting thing I could come up with. -
Take a look at the Zowie FK1, it might suit you.
Keep in mind that the two side buttons are not usable (you can enable the right or left set of sidebuttons but not both)
I have heard some issues with this mouse though
-thin mousefeet
-button switches too stifff
-12-15ms button debouce latency (not sure about the FK1)
-scrollwheel QC issuesNingyo likes this. -
Hmm made a comparison picture,
The red is the g402, the blue is the m510 purple is the overlap.
Hmm I'm not sure whether I would like that change or not, I tend to alternate between a palm and claw grip, and I think the g402 shape would force me into almost entirely going claw grip which might be better for gaming, but the changing grip back and forth meant my hand would not get tired as easily even if gaming for 4-12 hours.
Definitely keep this one in mind though, its not really what I was looking for, but not a bad idea. -
Hmm that Zowie FK1 looks almost exactly like what I was looking for. Put it at the top of my list for now, going to be another week or so before I actually order anyway.
Thanks for the suggestion Mobius 1
