Bah, so my Zune's battery decided to die on me after a year and 3 months of use. Since I'm also out of warranty it'll cost me $160 to go to Microsoft directly. That's a little insane IMO. I found a company called Rapid Repair ( http://www.rapidrepair.com/) that could replace the battery for me at a hopefully cheaper rate (I'm calling them now) and I'm wondering if it's legit? What do you all think?

They just told me that it'll cost $45 for them to do it. That's a lot better...

    Thanks,
    Eric Huang

You can buy a replacement battery and do it yourself for half that cost.

And that requires soldering, and having to deal with the innards of the Zune. Sure, I can build a desktop, but I have zero confidence with playing around with anything within a device like a Mp3 player. I'd much rather ship it to someone else even it'll cost me a bit more.

Its very easy to do in most DAP's. The battery is usually very accessible, and its two or three leads. I've done in in other brands of DAP's.

Regardless of the difficulty I still don't want to. Can anyone just give me some idea of the legitimacy of this company?

Looks like a legitimate site to me. they have a phone number so you could call them and test the water. Its a pretty good idea for someone who has the experience and the backing for if they ever break anything.

They're very legit and I know many people who have ordered things from that site.

Okay, thanks. I called them already but obviously that doesn't tell you that much...scams can be pretty elaborate nowadays.

Despite some positive responses concerning this company's legitimacy you still seem to be unsure about it. If you are not comfortable with using their service then DON"T DO IT! Look elsewhere.

I've personally ordered items from them, and received them in a timely manner.

I haven't used their repair service, but I did buy a replacement Zune battery from them, plus the "Zune tool" kit to do it myself. The tools are just plastic prybars (good quality) so you don't mar the Zune's sides if you slip. Honestly though, all you need is a small philips head screwdriver for the two small screws at the base of the Zune, then a thin flat-head to slowly pry the case apart. A manual with pictures is available for free on PCRepair's web site.

After that, there's no soldering involved, all connections are simply flat ribbons with clamp sockets. Heck, you can send it to me and I'll do it for 20$ ;)

haha, the shipping costs to send it to you would probably far exceed the $45 they quoted me for lol....

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up, I'll probably arrange to send it in to them sometime soon when I get a chance.
