This is the second item that I received today in my shipment from UPS, the Sumdex Impact Guard Large size sleeve for most 15.4" laptops.
I purchased this sleeve at www.academicsuperstore.com on friday for $21.95 with free shipping. Unlike most things at this site, no "academic" verification is required in order to get this price. This is also available at www.ebags.com or www.newegg.com

The sleeve itself is very well made. The outside material is some sort of polyester cloth on the front and back. The sides are a mesh with silver underneath. The handles are simple nylon straps. The grey piping along the edges and the nice zippers make for a very slick and attractive exterior. Inside is a soft felt like cloth that lines the entirety of the interior. Even the underside of the top all the way up to the zipper itself is trimmed with this felt material.

As long as there are no foreign objects inside the case, you won't be getting scratches on your freshly painted KandyKote over Ferrari Red high buff laptop/mirror.
The zipper is nice too.

The dimensions for interior laptop capacity are officially 13.75"x11.25"x2" though my Dell Inspiron 6000 which is officially 14"x10.45"x1.44" fits just fine.
Anything around this size should fit with no problem, I can actually slip in a few sheets of paper along with my laptop.

Now on to the exciting stuff, the stuff that sets this apart from other laptop sleeves, the IT factor: SensaTech(tm) ImpactGuard(tm). CompleteWith TwoWords MadeInto OneWord technology, this NASA developed G-Force absorbing foam lines the inside of your laptop sleeve, protecting 5 of the 6 sides from mortal peril in case of SII (SuddenImpactIncidents). The foam supposedly pads the sleeve, making it more protective than the standard weenie neoprene fair you see from other companies. Firm at first touch, but soft upon further squeezing, I suppose the extra padding would protect your laptop in the case of a 100g iron ball spontaneously materializing and dropping onto your laptop, as the pictures on the packaging suggest.

It's much firmer than a TempurPedic bed or pillow, but it has similar properties, just firmer. I can see the foam offering extra protection, which is what i need in my bag, but who knows. I do know that it is much more resilient to impact than other sleeve that I have seen which either have no padding, or soft and squishy padding. The firmness of the padding almost makes it like a hard case, except with ImpactAbsorbtion abilities. The sleeve also keeps its shape even without a laptop in it, which will be nice for pulling the laptop in and out of the sleeve when its in a fully loaded bag at the airport and you have to do a security check.
In conclusion, this is an excellent sleeve, and it seems that it will protect my laptop very nicely inside of my bag. But if i don't want my bag, I can just stick my laptop and some papers in the sleeve and carry it by itself with the handles.

UPDATE: i have Complete Care so i took the liberty of punching my laptop/hitting it quite a bit with my fists, open palms, etc. and the laptop is just fine. i think the computer is going to be just fine in this case and very well protected.

lol thanks for the good review. I think i'll buy one
-
I have to second the review. I have one of these it is by far superior to say the Targus brand neoprene.
-
But you KNOW what we all want, don't you?
I'll furnish the iron ball, if you'll provide the sleeve and laptop. We want home videos!!!
Come on...
(Thanks for an excellent, and humourous review!) -
I actually thought of doing the iron ball... i might borrow some weights from the physics department if i have the time.
-
Well, if you are going to do the iron ball test, you really need to do it following standard, scientific procedures.
First test should be in a standard, non-impact guard sleeve.
Then, use your second laptop to duplicate the test, this time WITH the impact guard sleeve.....
-
wOOwOO. yeah give me some time and i'll get to it. it'll have to be when i have another comp i can borrow if the 1kg drop from 15m does the screen in

Is the sleeve big or bulky? I want to fit that sleeve with my laptop in a notebook bag
-
if you're looking for a thin neoprene sleeve just to protect from scratches then this is bulky, relatively speaking. It fits fine in all of my bags including my laptop bag, backpack, and messenger. it just adds a bit all around, obviously because it has the memory foam which is maybe a centimeter thick, then the thick mesh cloth exterior. You can check out the external dimensions and compare them against your bag and what not.

Damnit KidA, I already bought the Kensington Alarm Lock, now your good review is going to make me buy this. Stop wasting all my money!

Kids nowadays....no respect for technology. You guys dont deserve laptops, I mean c'mon, hitting a laptop just to see if it breaks

Aside from that incident, i'm overprotective of the thing, hence the sleeve
