I got a toy I was looking forward too for a long time to add my to laptop gear. I wanted to do a review of this for NBR since before I ordered it as I thought it would have a major appeal to laptop users due to its size/weight.

The KBC Poker X mechanical keyboard.

Its ultra light weight and reduced footprint make it ideal for laptop use as it fits right in your bag, and in my case it fits right on your laptop as well so you don't have to move your laptop back away from you to use the external keyboard.

Other than the size feature, the price was fair and I was drawn to the fact I could choose the mechanical switch type I wanted. I really wanted to try MX Reds as they are the only switch that I really didn't have experience with.

Reds have been hard to find/get for a long time (though I am seeing some new keyboards come to market with them, so it seems to be getting popular)

I have been typing really well with it and the keyboard has been everything I expected and more.

I did a full video review of the unit today that you can check out for more details, images, etc. So check that out and lets see if anybody else joins the KBC crew @ NBR.

Swapped keys (looking at the fn and alt keys)? Look like a complete new layout. The keyboard is great for typing, the lack of dedicated f# keys may scare off gamer who rely on them But for typing, you can easily increase your wpm due to its size and line of travel. Learning the fn shorcut is the hard part to get the memory musle going. I have the mx cherry blue version (looking to sell).

Guess I didn't look hard enough >< I searched "kbc poker X" too specific

Thanks for the links as for ffzero's statement of less travel across the keyboard to increase typing speed; isn't the poker above, the same travel distance as a normal keyboard?

Yes its normal distance or if you train yourself less since you do not have to bottom out the keys to activate them.

Rawr! getting used to the MX Red just got done putting on my full o-ring mod and pbt keys and man its awesome now.

This is no placebo, the reds light press, no tactile bump and the shorter throw distance of my keys due to the oring mod I did have made me type faster.

I used to do this test at least a few times in a row to hit the 100wpm mark. Now just cruising along not trying to go for uber max speed I hit like 110wpm on the second take.

    Vicious

Your sharing this keyboard led me on a journey and I finally found my own! And I also pretty much left NBR for another forum in the process

Just wanted to say thanks and mechanical keyboards rule!

    That is all.

This keyboard is my everyday @ work keyboard. I use it with blank white PBT keycaps and an o-ring mod. I love typing on it and definitely it has reduced my typing fatigue and increased my speed.

Mechanical keyboards are awesome (currently using a Keycool 84 /w blue switch), I can't ever go back to normal keyboards.

Finding a keyboard like that is hard in the UK (I had to import my current keyboard from HK), I can see a similar model on eBay, shipped from China.

I also recently got a keycool 87 /w Red switches) with regular ABS keycaps. I just wonder does the PBT keycaps makes a big difference?
So far I'm loving the keyboard and really can't go back to membrane keyboards anymore.

PBT Keys just are a better plastic so its not going to really make the keyboard better. You can expect it to take much more time for keys to get a "shine" to them and a different kind of noise when they bottom out or go back to place.
