    REI E-Wrap Sleeve

I purchased this sleeve at the only place it can be purchased, REI. If you’ve never heard of REI, they make great quality outdoor gear for a fair price. I bought the sleeve for $30 and for that price this sleeve comes with lots of features.

When I first was looking for a sleeve for my ASUS W3J I wanted to make sure it would open up vertically so I could just slide the notebook out of my backpack without taking out the sleeve to do so. At first I noticed the REI E-Wrap Sleeve online (REI.com) and I know that they make great products I just wasn’t sure that they could beat companies that specialize in making sleeves for notebooks. So I went to my local REI and instantly fell in love with the small carbon colored notebook sleeve.
The sleeve has two tote handles that allow you to just carry the notebook by itself and also has two clips so can put on strap (strap sold separately). It also opens up vertically and horizontally making this sleeve very versatile. Plus it has room to hold your AC Adapter, mouse, and whatever else you might want to carry around.
The sleeve comes in three different sizes and are quite light weight since they are made out of nylon (plus padding):

    Small: 13 x 11 x 1.65 in. / 9 oz.
    Medium: 14.25 x 11.25 x 1.8 in. / 10 oz.
    Large: 16 x 11.25 x 2 in. / 12 oz.

Vertically it’s very snug for my W3J and I wish the bag could have been .5cm longer so that there was a little more room for play. There’s also a little bit of space horizontally, but the notebook doesn’t shift in the bag so I it doesn’t matter to me.
The other day I was asked how strong the Velcro was so I went and put twenty pounds of weight in it. The Velcro didn’t even creak at all. The straps clips are position correctly on the back side of the bag instead of the top flap so that it won’t open up if your toting around by hand or over your shoulder.

Between the nylon on all sides and flaps is foam padding. I’m not sure what type of foam padding it is, but knowing REI it’s high quality. I guess if you wanted to you could punch your notebook while in the sleeve (read that on a review on the site) or you could drop it on the ground. I would prefer to wait for an accident, if that ever occurs.

The best part about this sleeve is if you don’t like it it’s backed with a customer satisfaction gurantee. So all you have to do is return it and get your money back.

Good review. I did buy one and I fell in love with it. My problem is the same the slight extra length would help but it is not mandatory. I appreciate the persistance of some people to make it known this is a good product. REI well I have gone there since they were one store in down town Seattle. I have not lived there in a very long time but the quality has not changed. This is the only thing I looked at in the first place could it go in both my computer bag and my back pack and yes it could. It has one slight problem of not being quite long enough but the velcro does make it fit tight. I think this is better than having it swim in a larger bag. It seems more sturdy and padded than all but one sleeve I looked at. Seems if I was in a pinch it would do just fine as a portable computer case by itself. I also bought the strap and I think that allows a choice shoulder hand back pack or computer case VERY VERSATILE!!! Aryding good review finally!! LOL :D

Thank you for the great review and pics. You earned some Rep for that.

I'll head to the local REI and check it out.

I went to REI and I picked up this bag, but it didn't come with a shoulder strap?

Where do I go about buying a shoulderstrap for this?

My quick review: This bag fits my Targus Chicago Citygear backpack like a glove. But like the OP said, if the vertical was about 1/2 cm taller it'd be perfect. Nevertheless, I doubt my backpack will flip upside down especially since my backpack has another strap that holds the laptop in place. It's exactly what i needed.

But back to my original question.. where to buy shoulder strap!??! :D

If you read my review it says the strap does not come with it. I found a strap lying around my house. They do sell a strap at REI for $10 but your better off find a really cheap one or using one off of a duffle bag that you might have.
