im looking for 8 to 16gb of USB storage, but i have a card reader in my laptop which gives 30mb/s+ speed to a sandisk extreme III card, and i was wondering if i should get another SD card and a USB card reader for when im out and about or just get a normal USB memory stick?

so which would be faster? SD card in a USB card reader or a standard USB memory stick?

Both can be fast, but with the SD cards you know your buying a fast one when you get certain class cards. With USB drives you dont really know as well unless its specified or you find benchmarks.

For convenience I use USB drives, I would only use SD cards if it was required by a device (like my Wii)

Also a USB based card reader may be a lot slower than your laptops internal reader.
