I recently had a IDE HDD go out on me and wanted to know what the best SSD brand for build quality. What SSD would you buy (price aside) if you needed a SSD that would never fail on you? Iv read the SLC drives are built more towards server use and have more runtime hours.

Also where can I buy cabling for my harddrives, any one recomend a site? thanks

...complicated question with no simple answer.

Intel X-25M drives are doing very well - not getting any failure reports.
(That's apart from one freak failure here on NBR - but else, nothing - not like some of the Sandforce ones that lost their speed or just died...)

You are right that SLC drives are meant for servers - and they also cost a few times more.

I suspect one of the best choices for reliability would be an Intel X-25M BUT you won't get an IDE one.
The fact that you are on an IDE interface will severely limit your choice - it will also mean that most SSDs won't perform as good as they could because they'll be capped by the interface speed and command queuing won't be supported either.

Lastly - this should be in the hardware section :D

    Oh, and it's "quality" with a "q"...

For mobile enterprise use, my preference is STEC. This is a totally different breed of SSD than most of the solutions you will hear about here since it has a different target market. I think you (the OP) should read more about SSD technology and determine what exactly your uses are before you ask a question about the "best" SSD.
