Anybody ever owned one of these. How are they? Are the well built? How is the material. Is STM known for making good backpacks? I will be putting a hp dv5t in there. Does it have a well padded laptop compartment?

I have the STM evolution small - it's well padded. It fits my back well and I can carry a load for miles. It is comfortable and waterproof with reflective markers.
The only con I have is that the zippers are too small bu then again it wouldn't be waterproof.
I give it a 9 out of 10. -
I am on my second STM backpack. I had the first for about five years and it is still in good condition after being used for the commute to work everyday. I replaced it when I got an ASUS F3Sv as it didn't fit well.
I looked at the Evolution and liked it a lot. But, while the F3Sv fits into the bag, it has feet that stick out a bit at the back and this caught on the material in the notebook section. Other than this, it would have been perfect.
I can't remember the name of the STM bag I did get, and it isn't on their site anymore, but again it is well built and shows no sign of wear after a years commuting use.
I see a lot of the STM Sports model on other people. Not as many as th equivalent Targus, but it seems to be their most popular model here.
